When I first came to Richmond in the late 60's, this doughnut shop, Krispy Kreme was always there. One of the first free standing doughnut shop that I know of has been a icon fixture in Richmond, Virginia for years. When I was a child my parents were working late nights and would bring home hot doughnuts for a snack before we went to bed, or for morning breakfast. the store is still in the original location, and they recently had a grand re-opening and modernize the store. I see the same equipment being used with little change. Now instead of counter coffee and large windows looking into the making of doughnuts., you now have tables and chairs or booths. The counter is for service orders and pick-ups.
Favorite Dish: Plain glazed doughnut, hot if you can get them
Fresh doughnuts straight from the fryer. Krispy Kreme has been at this location since 1955 and has become a Richmond institution. You can buy Krispy Kreme at any grocery store, but there is nothing like eating a doughnut freshly made on the premises. As you enter the side door, you can see the doughnuts go through the process of being made.
Favorite Dish: Raspberry jelly filled glazed doughnut and, in the autumn, they serve a pumpkin doughnut. The year round they have more varieties of doughnut than Baskin Robbins, even Bresler's, has of ice cream. Krispy Kreme serves up the best doughnuts in the area.
Simply the place to go for a late-nite pig out!
We on the West Coast just recently got our first KK franchises out here - you can get 'em at SBC Park in SF - but everyone kept telling me that the only way to eat 'em was fresh. I scoffed; how much better can they be? But let me tell 'ya, it is more than worth a trip for these tasty treats!
Favorite Dish: The glazed donuts - hot off the rack - are in a food group by themselves; calling them donuts does not do them justice. Sugary, crispy outside, melt in your mouth good on the inside. All other donuts are crap compared to these. Trust me on this.
In the window of KKs there's a red sign that says "hot" & "now" on it. When it is flashing - PULL OVER! That means they're just coming out!
I would suggest getting at least a dozen. I ate 6 of them no problem, and was only mildly woozey.
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts is a chain of bakeries which produce and sell dougnuts since 1937. It was founded in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Now, they are in all states and in Canada, UK and Australia, too.
This one in Richmond has been at this location since 1955 and became very popular, the best place to either buy or taste famous dougnuts in the area.
Favorite Dish: Hot and freshly made doughnuts in great variety ($0.93 with tax per each). Yummy...
Krispy Kreme Doughnuts in Richmond offered over 30 kinds to choose from. Among them:
- Original glazed
- Cinnamon bun,
- Chocolate iced,
- Pumpkin spice cake,
- Key lime pie,
- Strawberry filled.
Favorite Dish: We ordered a few doughnuts ($0.93 with tax per each). Try original glazed, glazed raspeberry filled and chocolade iced kreme filled. All were great! Cafe latte ($2.71 with tax) was... drinkable.
A Richmond tradition. Whatever your doughnut vice they've got it. Another tradition is to eat the glazed doughnuts while they are still hot. I personally prefer them cooled.
Favorite Dish: Boston Creme would be my favorite choice. For those of you unfamiliar with this doughnut, it is a egg cream filled, glazed, chocolate topped delight. The plain glazed is the most popular( this is the one you eat hot).
