Quarter: New Orleans meets Star City

by HotSpotJ Written Oct 30, 2011

Quarter is a great new (2011) French Quarter themed retaurant located on Salem Ave that has a great staff, good menu and solid, fun atmosphere. It does not stay open late (10pm on most weeknights), so definately stop in early for dinner and drinks. I should have this in the restaurants heading, but I've had so much fun in this spot why not call it a nightspot. Quarter has a great outside patio and fabulous updtairs bar, plenty of room and variety of space. This spot also has some great unique brews on tap. Put on your Saints jersey and come down!

If you are in the mood for Cajun cuisine, come down and check it out. For larger groups, call ahead so that the staff can accomodate.

    Dress Code: Casual.

    Campell Avenue: Downtown Roanoke Nightlife

by HotSpotJ Updated Oct 30, 2011
    Downtown Roanoke at night

The Downtown area of Roanoke is slowly improving as far as having a heartbeat after sunset. This place has improved vbastly over what is was only 2 or 3 years ago, whereas before you had only 1 real club to go to now you have a variety of restaurants all within the Campbell Ave vacinity. the openings of Metro, Green Dolphin Grille, Frankie Rowlands, and Dolce to compliment Corned Beef and Cornerstone have really made a night in downtown Roanoke enjoyable for the martini and draft beer crowds alike.

Dress Code: Dress Code as compared to how others will be dressed:

    1 Being-street person, 10 being- Tuxedo

    Corned Beef and Co.- 5
    Metro- 7
    Quarter-6
    Flannery's- 3.5
    Green Dolphin Grille-3.5
    309 - 5.5
Frankie Rowlands- 8 (at the bar- 7)
    Cornerstone- 5
    Awful Arthurs- 3.5

    and last, but not least....

Texas Tavern- 2 (only because sometimes I do see street people in there...but don't let that deter you, the Bowl With is a must!)

  • GUNTHER O'DARBY'S PUB: IRISH PUB!

by birdmanimal Written Nov 10, 2007

The only Irish Pub in downtown, and the only TRUE pub in Roanoke (beware the others that try to stake this claim-the others are corporate and commercial fakeness). This is also the last of the true bars in Roanoke. Awesome fish and chips, great prices, great people, great fun. If you are from out of town, you will be welcomed here! Open mic night on Thursdays.

Dress Code: Whatever you feel comfortable-all are welcome here. On weekends and special events nights, you will often find people in traditional Celtic clothing.

Dolce: A Slice of South Beach

by HotSpotJ Updated Jan 8, 2007

    Partied out at Dolce

This place just opened in very late 2004, I can tell right away with the decor that someone here has been to the Opium Garden in South Beach, they have tried some things with the design that has worked in Miami, the lanterns, the couch decor, and it has turned out very well. If you have partied in a legit scene then this is the closest you will get to what VIP really means, with good music and good drinks, it takes you away from the Southern Virginia atmosphere... the cocktail waitresses here are VERY cute and it is well worth your while to step into DOLCE, here they shine above the rest!

CLOSED DECEMBER 2006. I'll take some memories away from this place, it was a fun time, but things went downhill fast, but, hey, what can you do? Roanoke wasn't ready for all hip-hop I guess.

Dress Code: Dress the part, act the part. No sweats or jerseys. Wear a nice collered Italian shirt or something of that nature,... dress to impress and you will be impressed.....

Corned Beef and Company: Corn what?

by HotSpotJ Updated Sep 19, 2006

    Corned Beef and Co.

When I turned 21, this place was my first hangout, I'd go have a few drinks and dance a bit. They renovated this place a year later, making an investment that produced one of the largest restaurants/nightclubs in Southern Virginia. I have been to many corporate functions here, and it really is a great place to entertain with a very attentive staff, and alot to do after the night wears on, as they have 5 bars and a cigar room with pool tables and even a card table.

The nightclub part of this place is much different than the restaurant function. You get a very strange crowd in here on the weekends, and while they play good music and usually have a packed house, sometimes its hard to have fun because of a very, very clashing crowd. And sometimes this makes the guys at the door act rude, and who wants to be treated like they are trying to access VIP in South Beach or Vegas when they are in Roanoke Virginia.

I definately recommend this place at least once, try it out, and form your own opinion.

Dress Code: This changes from weekend to weekend, but has basically been casual dressy or tucked in redneck.

Mangos: A 30 minute drive to the waterfront

by HotSpotJ Written Mar 27, 2005
    Mangos

This is a great place (unaffiliated with the South Beach Mangos) to party at on any givin summer weekend. just be careful if you drive back to the city, there are DUI checkpoints along the popular ways.

    Blueberry Hill: Ummmm- no

by HotSpotJ Written Mar 27, 2005

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Blueberry Hill... from what I've seen there, you go in, and there are country-dresssed people everywhere, and then they play hip-hop, which I love, but then you have this uncomfortable environment with country guys listening to hip-hop with only like 10 cute girls in the entire place, and they usually all have boyfriends. It always seems like a recipe for a fight to me.

Cornerstone Bar and Grill: My favorite spot!

by HotSpotJ Written Mar 27, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

    Halloween at Cornerstone

Cornerstone is probably my favorite spot in roanoke, one, the ratio of guys to girls (usually girls come in here in large groups), and two, the owners are very cool and sociable and really appreciate good patrons such as my friends and I. There are two bars in here, one up and one down, with decent music and good drinks, and now a patio for the warmer weather months.

Dress Code: More casual than most, but still no jerseys or sweats... why would you even want to wear a jersey or sweats anyway though?

    Metro!: Enjoy the atmosphere

by HotSpotJ Written Mar 27, 2005

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Me finishing off another martini at Metro!

I love this place, though there alot of locals who feel uncomfortable in here, it takes me to another place everytime I'm in here. Metro has a great menu, great bartenders concocting great drinks, but its the atmosphere that I love. Go upstairs and lounge on the couch and BS with friends, or sit at the bar downstairs and talk the night away. There's no dancing in here, well, no real dance floor, but its always fun and ultra-chic, even the bathrooms are pimped out in 100% blue tile.

Dress Code: Dress the part, don't wear old jeans and a wrinkled button up, if you want to look good, then dress good.
