The Cheese Shop by b1bob The Cheese Shop is another Mennonite-run shop in the Shenandoah Valley. Because the Mennonites' religious beliefs frown upon preservatives, everything sold here is homemade and fresh.
A large assortment of cheeses as well as homemade breads, herbs, spices, jams and jellies, fresh eggs, and other condiments are sold here. Leave a Comment Theme: Food and DrinkAddress: 2366 Tinkling Spring Road, Stuarts Draft, VA 24477Phone: (540) 337-4224

Stars and Stripes Forever by b1bob Whether you are a Republican or a Democrat, Stars and Stripes Forever has what you are looking for. All manner of patriotic and political gifts plus military items. The one pictured was at Patriot Plaza in Williamsburg, but that location closed in 2007. The only one left that I know of is in Yorktown.
Those of y'all who know me best which side of the political fence I'm on. I bought a shirt and several buttons along those lines. Opened in 1999, Dulles Town Center is one of the latest big malls in Northern Virginia. It has 130 stores (nothing terribly different from the usual big mall lineup) and restaurants including a large and varied food court. Because it was within walking distance from my hotel, I stopped there for supper after having my fill of several days of pizza and fast food hamburgers. There is also a miniature Dulles Airport play area sponsored by Jet Blue airlines and there is a roundabout near the food court.
Almost anything can be found with this lineup. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherAddress: 21100 Dulles Town Circle, Sterling, VA 20166Directions: Detailed directions from all pointsWebsite: www.shopdullestowncenter.com

Dayton Farmer's Market by b1bob The Dayton Farmers Market is reminiscent of the old fashioned roadside stands selling local agricultural products and foods, but in the sheltered and air-conditioned (or heated) comfort of an enclosed building.
Just about anything you can imagine is available at the 23 kiosks that set up shop here. Leave a Comment Theme: Local CraftAddress: 3105 John Wayland Hwy., Dayton, VA 22821Phone: (540) 879-3801Directions: Hours & Detailed DirectionsWebsite: http://www.daytonfarmersmarket.com

Corky's isn't the easiest store to describe. Corky loves all things historical so he has civil war stuff, Army surplus, knives, patches, kid's toy guns, caps, camping gear and a bunch of miscelaneous stuff in the back of the shop. The front of the shop is dedicated to eclectic clothing and jewelry for the ladies and tee shirts for guys. Last time I was in the shop, he also had some shoes, boots and books. Corky's also has chachkies...you know, things to have around the house for no other purpose than they're cool.
Jewelry, Army surplus, clothing, shoes, kid's stuff, etc.

Our shopping destination during our stay by Faiza-Ifrah We shopped like crazy at the Mall for one good reason - prices. The clothes and dresses were great quality for even greater sales that were going on in all the department stores. We were told that Canadians used to come in droves to shop in the Mall, but this trend has reduced during this summer.
Women, men and children clothing, apparel, jewellery and other products.
Sky is certainly the limit money wise, but the clothes are economical. Leave a Comment Theme: Department StoreDirections: The Valley Mall is located in Harrisonburg on Route 33 immediately after the east exit 247 A of I 81.

by gipper84 I collect political buttons. When Nat and I wandered through here one hot day, I figured this country antique shop would be one of those unlikely places to find what I was looking for. They had no political buttons, but they had everything else including air conditioning. The clerk was very friendly and I took his business card so I could check and see if they would have any in the future.
You can buy mostly antiques!
Expect to pay reasonable prices for antiques that are hard to find around rest of VA. One good thing about VA is that it is known for having really nice antique shops. Leave a Comment Theme: AntiquesDirections: Rt. 38 West off of Rt. 360 Amelia VA

Old Virginia Tobacco by b1bob Folks, I don't smoke, but this tobacco store holds some fond memories for me. In the early 1970s, Daddy smoked a pipe and he picked up his tobacco from this store. Even as a young child, the fragrance of the unlit tobacco in the store sticks in my mind. The one pictured is at 3532 West Cary Street in Richmond, but there are other locations primarily in Northern Virginia selling cigars, pipes, pipe tobacco, chew tobacco, and snuff. Leave a Comment

Plan 9 Music by b1bob Plan 9 stores carry a deep rock catalog, but they carry all kinds from bluegrass to rap. Unlike most state and national chains of music stores, Plan 9 supports local artists and their shows. Many titles are sold on consignment directly from area bands, and you might happen on in-store performances which the company actively encourages. Besides Richmond, they have locations in the university towns of Williamsburg (William & Mary), Charlottesville (UVA), and Harrisonburg (James Madison University). Leave a Comment Theme: Music
