Favorite thing: July/August:
If you want crowds and crazy nightlife come in July and August these are the busiest months. However there is a lot to do at these times as well, they have free music act and entertainment every night till 10pm down Atlantic Ave., plus bigger acts going on in the stages. They have music, outdoor movies, magic shows, dance artists, storytellers, etc... Plus the carnivals are in full swing and Wed and Sun they have fireworks and festivals of all kinds. Plus the beach is warmest at this time. So you can see why the crowds are here at that time.
April-June and Sept is much less busy and there are many very warm days to spend here. There is subsequently less to do but you will have the beach to yourself for the most part many locals come out and enjoy themselves and many Atlantic stores and restaurants are opening up and are in full swing, Meters are out at this time and tickets and tows will abound if you park in the wrong spots. It is still very warm at times during these times. You can get better deals at this time. Sept. can be pretty nice and the Neptune Festival is great.
Jan-April and Oct.-Dec are virtually free of tourists so if you like solitude and having the beach completely yours for the takeing it is the time for you. Plus there are no meters and you can park anywhere for as long as you want. It never gets too cold in VB and any of these months can have suprise 70 degree weather but it will stay around 50's and sometimes will get just below freezing. Winds can get bad sometimes. You can get great deals at this time since it isn't busy at all. Many stores are closed on Atlantic. You can go Whale Watching at this time. Just don't forget to bring lots of clothing for warm, cool and cold since weather is so unpredictable.

Favorite thing: Along any street in town you will see many boxes like these, Grab What's in Them! There are many good coupons to be had, maps of the area and trolley services. These are great sources of information and discounts. We always pick these up and always save, find some thing to do that we didn't think of or a good place to eat that is close by.

Favorite thing: All long the boardwalk there is a really nice bike path that is only for bikes. This makes traveling up & down the boardwalk on a bike very enjoyable and fast. It goes from end to end and there are many places to lock up and go do what ever you want.

Favorite thing: All long the boardwalk and around the town you will find many places to lock up your bike safely. The town can be covered by bike if your healthy or not, just take your time, stop lock up and shop or eat. Then your on your way again, no waiting for a trolley, bus or taxi.

Favorite thing: As this is a military installation and the beach is used by them it is not accessible to the public, but there is a pathway leading to view the beach area.
Here I am sitting in the shade of the pergoda in a bit of shade with the new lighthouse in the background.

Favorite thing: I've been to many Florida beaches, but none compare to the Virginia beach sand. So white, soft, and fluffy. Great sand to play football or frisbee on. The waves were much better there than any Florida beach also. I did alot of bodysurfing and when I was able to borrow a board it was so much fun!

Favorite thing: This liberty ship sunk in 1943 was carrying a load of trucks, motorcycles, airplanes and tanks when it went down. These items along with a large amount of artiliery shells can easily be seen throughout the wreck and nearby on the sea floor. Be cautious though as the artillery shells are still live.

Favorite thing: Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Portsmouth and Suffolk are known as Hampton Roads or south side. The cities -- Newport News and Hampton, that lie across the James River and over the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel are known as the north side or the peninsula.

Favorite thing: Take a walk, bike or rollerblade down the boardwalk. Great place to people watch. There is entertainment all along the strip during the week.On Friday and Sunday nights at 10PM there are fireworks over the ocean at about 14th street.
Fondest memory: Love ocean the most. Will real miss the beach, boardwalk and all the things to do. Being there one week, we really didn't get to see and do everything.
