If your kids like haunted houses, like most kids do, and you as parent or elders to younger siblings, don't you just love to hear them SCREAM! Yes you do! So if it's to hot outside for you and the kids are complaining it's to hot, there is an option to take them to what could be a cooler place or a screaming fest. Another idea to keep the kids happy and make you laugh!
20th & Atlantic Ave
Every morning and early evening you will find many people walking their dogs along the boardwalk. Not sure if this is for exercising the dog or the human, but not a bad idea if you bring your pet, to take them for a walk.
Each of the sections of beach in Virginia Beach are divided into the neighborhoods that border them. Also there are some nieghborhoods where the invisible boundaries of social class are in effect or where some historic event has joined the people into closer union.
These areas in Virginia beach are:
Alanton... residential beach area named after Alan McCullough (architect)
Bayside... residential area around route13 and US60
Chesapeake Beach (Chic Beach).... Lynnhaven Inlet to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel.
--- upscale properties and beachfront cottages where public access is restricted
Croatan Beach... very rich estates on the ocean south of Rudee Inlet
Kings Grant... urban area around Kings Grant Road and Little Neck Road
Pick up a Virginia Beach Visitors Guide, packed with information about the area, also inside is a plastic credit card type card called the Vacation Discount Card. This card is accepted in so many places, shops, restaurants, cruising, parasailing etc. Which will entitle you to good discounts, From $1 of a meal to buy one meal get another free!
There are also coupons to cut out of the magazine.
There is a local contest to see how many lights you can drive through (staying within the speed limit) before you get a red light.
The contest takes place on US60 (Atlantic Avenue/ Pacific Avenue) anywhere from 82nd Street to 6th Street.
I have done 12 lights from 36th Street to 22nd Street.
Try it when you get there. Sounds easy but it is harder than it sounds (no running-a-red either).
Okay, I hate to sound mean or anything, but this is true. A lot of people my age [ages 15-23] don't like being heckled by tourist. Living in a highly touristy spot, we realy hate to be bothered by people who aren't locals. So if you see a young person, don't ask them for directions to somewhere, 98% of the time, we'll send you the wrong way. Also, at VA Beach, there are a lot of 'punks' who look very...offbeat. Don't stare at us, you won't like the response. I'm writing this out of experience.
Despite one of the locals on here that claim they do not like tourists, talk to the locals about what there is to do in VA Beach. My family got a lot of great tips on where to go to rent bikes or buy a cruise because it was a lot cheaper than the what brochures in the lobby advertised!
People here for the most part are very nice and courteous just watch out for the other drivers since there is a lot of out of state drivers due to military bases here. just watch out for yourself
USE COMMON SENSE YOU SHOULD BE OK
This was a nice little ice cream shop, tasty and clean. Very friendly people, fast service and good price. Located on the boardwalk around the middle.
