  • At Cinema Cafe, you can buy dinner and watch a movie while you eat. This Cinema Cafe plays movies that have already been out a while though, so it's cheaper than going to the regular movies. Plus, Tuesdays and Thursdays are $1 nights!

This old coast guard station is now a museum. It was built in 1903 and has exhibits on shipwrecks off the Virginian coast. It also features an exhibition of the WWII Battle of the Atlantic.
It is open all year except for Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, New Years Eve, New Years Day
    Its about $3 admission

The bridge I assume was built with part tunnels to allow the many ships to pass through. There are battle ships, nuclear submarines, aircraft carriers, cruise and cargo ships that pass through here daily. There are plaques describing the ships and their names. This channel is called the Thimble Shoal Channel.

Virginia Beach has a lovely beach. A railed walkway runs along it's edge for several blocks. The restaurants along the walkway have large window seating which makes it an enjoyable dinning area, day or night. I'ts not unusual for the beach to loose it's sand, as it did in the hurricane this year, but the sand will be hauled in and the beach will be replaced to be enjoyed once more.

It's popular with the young crowd in the summer making it somewhat over populated.

Closest to the west is Norfolk 22 114 5 We lived here from 1960 to 1964, and we've been through here six times by boat.

The 1st number is the tips on my page, the 2nd number is the photographs, and the 3rd is the travelogues.

But in addition to Norfolk (in alphabetical order)

Chesapeake 1 4 0 is a very large area south of Norfolk with relatively few people.

Colonial National Historical Park 2 4 0 (Jamestown and Yorktown)

Colonial National Historical Parkway 5 14 0 which connects Jamestown and Yorktown

Deep Creek 2 29 3 is at the head of the Dismal Swamp Canal

Gloucester 5 7 0 This is just a restaurant tip for a place our friends took us to eat.

Gloucester Point 4 6 0 This is mostly about the York River Yacht Haven on Sarah Creek off the York River which was our 3rd stop on our trip south in the fall of 2001opposite Yorktown

Great Bridge 10 33 2 Visited three times on our way north via the Virginia Cut and once by car.

Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge 3 10 0 which we cross through every time we go down the Dismal Swamp Canal.

Hampton 23 80 5 This was the 4th stop on our trip south in the fall of 2000 and is mostly about Fort Monroe

    Newport News 9 61 5 (Mariner's Museum)

Portsmouth 23 90 5 Hospital Point is Mile Zero of the ICW.

    Smithfield 20 35 1

At the Northern end of Virginia Beach is a US Army base called Fort Story named after General John Patton Story. It became an army base in 1914 and is part of Fort Eustis.

The bridge was opened in 1964 and consists of part bridge and part tunnels. There is a shop, cafe and also fishing piers on the bridge.
The price for one way is $12 but you can return within 24 hours (showing your one way ticket) for another $5 which is what we did.

Williamsburg is unique as there has always been a town in this location. The buildings have been maintained and give you an accurate account of it's history. As you wander around the town you'll see it's residence dressed in historic costumes some driving carts and wagons of long ago.

There is no charge for walking the streets and admiring the buildings and visiting it's many shops with crafts, candy and of course tourist items.
