There are two faces to DC's nightlife. The first face is comprised mainly of a bar scene that is frequented by ex-fraternity/sorority folks who have carved out a niche in DC. They usually hit up the big bar scene, more than they do nightclubs/lounges. Unfortunately, this crowd is not very diverse.
The second face to DC's nightlife is comprised of an international-cosmopolitan crowd, which usually works at embassies, the World Bank/IMF, and other international institutions that are based in town. It is a pretty hip and diverse crowd, although it is pretty spread out and not concentrated. You will usually find this crowd at 18th St. Lounge (which is owned by the world-renown DJs "Thievery Corporation"), Dragonfly, Cafe Citron, Cafe Saint Ex, and Chi Cha Lounge.
I have my own preferences, but needless to say, both scenes are worth hitting up if you're in town.
THE WEEKLY ITINERARY
Being a business/government-oriented town full of young professionals on limited budgets, there is always a happy hour, even on Mondays. However, most of the action happens Thurs-Sat. When the weather is pleasant, people do dinner at sidewalk cafes and restaurants. Most places do not charge a cover price and those that do only do so on Fri/Sat. During the weekends, most places are close at 3am.
Hip, 4 leveled club. I used to work there for a year, so Id know. I would definately suggest getting a table if you have a few people with you, cover and drinks can get pricey. You save alot, have more fun, and can roll up in there like P diddy. Great performances, just check the website www. welcometodream.com, for the upcoming events. Thursday international 18+. Friday hip-hop, and R&B. Saturday international.
The club is not located in the best neighborhood . However, this is the place for live music. We caught Gov't mule here in December and we had a good time.
