Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Bring good shoes to walk in. Whether in Colonial Williamsburg or Busch Gardens, the difference between a good day and a great day is comfortable feet. :)

Photo Equipment: There is a lot to see and do in Colonial Williamsburg and many photo opportunities so come prepared to take a lot of pictures!

Miscellaneous: We have 4 of the best golf courses in Virginia here, so tee it up.

SMILE :-) - OUR GUIDE TO THE CAPITOL AND URSZULA

Luggage and bags: For walking around the Colonial Williamsburg, small, city backpack and surely bag for your camera - both better water-proof.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Comfortable walking shoes preferrably water-resistant: like good trainers or better special walking shoes (one example: Danish Ecco are very comfortable and... expensive but worth the cost).
Sun-glasses esp. in summer and always a rain coat/jacket, eventually less comfortable umbrella.

Read info on climate in Richmond (some 50 miles west of Willimsburg):

Check weather (10-day forecast) for Williamsburg:
Weather forecast for Williamsburg.

Photo Equipment: Take as much film as you can or as large a memory card as you can. The Colonial Williamsburg offer a lot for photography lovers :-).

For pictures at bad light (weather) and especially pictures of interiors take a tripod.

Miscellaneous: Before you go find and read basic historical informarion on Williamsburg in your travel book or in the net. Well, before my next trip to the USA I am going to buy the book "Historia USA. Narody i cywilizacje.", Polish translation of The Limits of Liberty: American History, 1607-1992 (Short Oxford History of the Modern World) by Maldwyn Allen Jones.

Do not forget to take BIG SMILE :-) Enjoy!

Trying to keep cool

Miscellaneous: Before we travelled I kept telling myself to pack one of those mini battery operated little fans, as having been in the states at the same time the year before I knew how hot and humid it would be. Needless to say I forgot it!!!! Went into Washington before Williamsburg and they were thankfully on sale in the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum.

Other than someone throwing a bucket of water over me the next best thing was this little fan. Here I am fanning myself :-)

Luggage and bags: That depends on the weather. In the summer time, make sure to bring the sun block.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Make sure your shoes are fit for long walks. To get the maximum effect of Colonial Williamsburg, you will have to do some tall walking.

Photo Equipment: 35mm camera with more film than usual. Be sure to buy your film at home because the prices in and around Williamsburg are confiscatory just to stick the tourists.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: In September the weather is great.  It is often mild-warm and gets cold at night.  I though it was great.  Bring some shorts along for the days, and then pants and a long sleeve shirt for the nights out on the town.

Two Things You May Need

Luggage and bags: If you visit in summer, or late spring, carry two things: sunscreen and bug spray. Remember that the settlers were plagued with mosquitos. And a day of sightseeing can leave you sunburned.

Photo Equipment: .As always, don't forget your camera. Williamsburg is very picturesque. Nat and I missed the peak fall foliage by about a week or two, but I can imagine that it would be spectacular in late October.
