  • A Riverfront Deck in Northern Virginia

Nestled on Virginia's placid Occoquan River, Water's Edge is still known to most locals by its former incarnations, Oasis and Gecko's and re-opened under new management as Waters Edge in Spring 2009..The restaurant is one giant room, with a giant bar, and giant TVs. A DJ booth, bandstand and dance-floor are in use on weekends. (The indoor areas,...

  • It;s changed for the Better!

Well, I gave this restaurant another try since the first time I went here wasn't as good as I had expected. Let me tell you, it has definitely changed for the better! The food is great! It is so much better than before. They changed some of their food choices and the food is more fresh. When I didn't find the Chinese dish that I wanted, I asked the...

  • Swedish/American food

I will be biased again because I really like Ikea. Their version of Swedish food is good enough for me. The restaurant is tastefully decked out in mod dining tables/chairs. It's very clean and just fresh looking. The ambience is IKEA in itself. The food is also priced quite reasonably. Their mini Swedish grocery store offers similar food as that...

  • All-You-Can-Eat, that's if you like the...

Bamboo Buffet is a typical all you-can-eat-place. They serve mostly Chinese fare but also offer sushi, Italian, American type dishes. It has both salad and dessert bars with all the yogurt/ice cream one can handle. There were some folks having lunch when we stopped by. I should mention that I'm not a big fan of buffets because I tend to overeat to...

  • A wonderful display

Sakura Japanese Steak and Seafood was founded in 1998 with 7 Tappan tables and a sushi bar. The motto of the company is great food, service and attitude. I selected the Filet Mignon and Shrimp Combination Platter (tender filet mignon, shrimp, fried rice, vegetables, onion soup and shrimp flambe).

  • Home Furnishing Heaven

I will be biased because I love Ikea! Aside from being affordable, the furnitures are already packed in cartons for easy transport. Their concept is to offer furnishings for less because the consumers will have to do the assembling. The furnitures are of modern but simple design. The company originated from Sweden, founded by Ingvar Kamprad. A...

  • Shop 'til you drop!

Potomac Mills is a huge outlet mall in Woodbridge. It has at least 200+ stores plus a movie theater with 18 screens. The mall also has a wide variety of food to choose from in their food court. Although it's a bit of a tourist trap, one can get some pretty good deals here. There's also a Foreign Currency service where you can exchange your foreign...

  • Discount Retail Shopping in Woodbridge

Potomac Mills Mall is one of the largest discount brand-name outlets you'll ever find in the area. Shoppers from DC, VA and MD come here to shop in the 200 outlets, stores and restaurants. If you come here, plan to do an all-day thing since it'll take quite a while to walk through all of the "neighborhoods" of the mall. There's also a newly renovated...

Woodbridge Warnings and Dangers

    1.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

If you're visiting Woodbridge, I'll assume that you're just driving from Maine or Quebec down to Miami, and you needed to stop halfway. Or your car broke down. Or you're spending a weekend at Potomac Mills Outlet.

Lucy and Ricky probably drove through Woodbridge when they took US 1 to Florida. Back then, before I-95, it was a sleepy little village along the Occoquan River. In the '80's, it boomed as a bedroom community 30 miles from Washington, DC. But, in the first years of the 21'st century, Woodbridge has become the "poor" area of Prince William County. More and more of the population is underemployed, Hispanic ("Not that there's anything wrong with that."), and transient. Crime, especially at the hotels near I-95, is not uncommon. This is no resort.

If you are staying in Woodbridge, particularly in the Rt. 1 corridor, take my advice: Lock your car, lock your hotel room, and take sensible precautions. Or maybe you should just drive for another hour.

NOTE: Virginia is a personal firearm state. In addition to permitting concealed weapons, Virginia has an "open-display" law. Do not be alarmed (or make any sudden moves) if you encounter a citzen carrying a firearm.

Woodbridge Off The Beaten Path

The summer waether is beautiful. So to enjoy the time there, take a drive along the Parkway as the sun arises to see the awesome sight of the river and people as they stroll along. Stop to write or just take in the sounds of the forest. Yes, there is still fresh air in the midst of DC work.
