The Shops at Georgetown Park

The Shops at Georgetown Park are a nice main-street mall with a variety of mid- and high-end stores in a beautiful setting. The mall has a variety of clothing stores, restaurants, jewelry stores, and much more. The interior of the three-story building is very well designed with exterior street-level exists on all three floors, including an exit to the canal. The inside also has tons of natural lighting, sculptures, and many gardens, making for a pleasant place for a lunchtime walk during the cold weather of winter.

Helia's: Very Unusual Beautiful Clothes

ForestqueenNYC 485 reviews

It was been almost 20 years ago that I started shopping at Helia's Boutique. Miriam's son was just a boy when I started and now he is a man working in the New York end of the busines. It is obviously a Mom store, that is opposed to a mom and pop store since it is completely run by her. Miriam has always had the ability to select the most colorful and unusual pieces. I doubt that you will see anything in her collections anywhere else. She has, of course, her faithful following. I go there whenever I am in town and even if I don't want to, I always buy something that I know that I cannot even find in New York.

Many of her clothes can be worn, only by tiny woman, but also by larger woman. This is just one of the collections that can be worn by both.

Do not judge by her website. In my opinion, it doesn't show off her things to their best.

BEWARE: She does not give you a refund only a store credit. So be sure you really want the item that you are buying.

What to buy: Something special, dressy, funky.

What to pay: Moderate prices.

H & M: My recommendation!

URSZULA'S NEW CAP FROM H & M :-)
4 more images

H&M is a worldwide chain of cloth stores. There are H&M stores in Poland, too. I got to know that H&M (Hennes & Mauritz) company was established in Sweden in 1947.

Urszula, my wife, loved that H & M in Georgetown. It's her first recommendation. The store is located in the shopping mall called The Shops at Georgetown Park. They sell clothes and underwear for ladies, gentelmen, youths, kids and H&M cosmetics as well. Good choice of interesting, trendy, mostly good (but not top) quality, various but fashionable in style (retro, say 20' of 20th century in fall 2004 collection) clothes.

What to buy: Urszula liked one jacket a lot but... hmm... it was too expensive or maybe we had too few dollars to spend that time haha. She has eventually bought this brown, corduroy cap in my picture (it's her 265th cap, I guess :-).

What to pay: Very affordable prices. Discounts up to 50%. The Urszula's cap has cost some $5.

MEXX: Expensive or affordable clothes

MEXX, GEORGETOWN
3 more images

MEXX has been a Dutch-owned and -operated chain of cloth stories since 1980 which fastly has become worldwide known. The store in Georgetown offers variety of clothes for people of all age from babies to adults. High-style looking clothes for women and less variety for men at their 20' and 30' dominate. The clothes are similar in style and choice but more conservative than those in H&M - for example they offer less colorful collection (including all-black clothes). MEXX is more expensive than H&M which should mean better quality as well.

What to buy: Clothes for babies, kids, youths and adults of both genders. Urszula liked white wool sweaters for some $70.

What to pay: Affordable or expensive... it depends on your budget. For sure more expensive than H&M but less expensive than Banana Republic. Like always, look for discounts and sales.

Club Monaco: Expensive clothes, fancy store

CLUB MONACO, GEORGETOWN

Club Monaco is a trendy men's and women's clothing and cosmetics chain that's a favorite of Monica Lewinsky's. Do you remember that "favourite woman" of former US President Clinton ? :-) Fashion writers describe Club Monaco as a sleek version of Banana Republic.

Well, that pretty set up store in Georgetown offers good or even top quality clothes and accessories for both women and men. It's not my recommendation for a budget visitors and for those looking for casual clothes.

What to buy: They offer something in the middle way between what maybe called casual and formal clothes. I did window shopping there :-)

What to pay: Expensive or very expensive clothes. For example $249 per man's wool peacoat I liked. Well, if ou have over $500 to dress up... OK, look for discounts and sales (50% off).

Banana Republic: No bananas but clothes and shoes

BANANA REPUBLIC
1 more image

I thought that "banana republic" was a small, politically unstable country, dependent on limited agriculture (mostly bananas), and ruled by a small, wealthy and corrupt clique. The pejorative term was used especially for some Latin American or Carribean country. But in Georgetown I discovered that Banana Republic is a proper name of, as I noticed later, quite large chain of cloth stores in the USA and Canada.
This large 3-floor store offers no bananas but great variety of clothes and shoes both for women and men, rather more formal clothes for adults than casual clothes for youths.

What to buy: Clothes or shoes for adults, both women and guys.

What to pay: A bit expensive. Look for discounts and sales.

LUSH, GEORGETOWN

This small and pretty set up store sells hand-made cosmetics to use and to amaze looking at them. Most of them like numerous bars of soap in different colours and shape look like small works of art and definetely would liven my bathroom up. Many of them are cut into pieces at place and sold by the weight. The company called LUSH based in UK runs over 185 shops around the world.

What to buy: Bars of soap of colour, size and shape you need.

What to pay: Very expensive :-(. $25 - $35 per 1 pound (half kilo) of soap.
