If your not the clubbin type person and tend to make an early night of it, may I suggest sightseeing at night. Sightseeing at night can be a lot of fun with many pluses! 1 not to crowded, 2 great parking! 3 it's quiet and peaceful. Night shots can be fun to play with, note how the reflection pond adds more light to brighten up the photo with out using a flash. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

If your looking for something to do at night and your not in the mood for a lot of noise, take a walk along the marina at sunset. It is so peaceful and relaxing to watch the sunset around all those beautiful boats. The Potomac looks much better under the moonlight any way. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Terry and I thought we would check out the town at night and just loved it. The monuments are all lit up for your enjoyment and photo ops of course! Washington DC has a lot of reflection ponds near the monuments so when they light them up at night it's much brighter and easy to take night shots! Best resualts with a tri-pod and no flash. Have fun! Leave a Comment Theme: Other

"We must never forget that art is not a form of propaganda, it is a form of truth." John F. Kennedy John F. Kenndy was one of the biggest supporters of the Arts; therefore, he lead in the fund-raising for The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Ironically, he died before it was completed; it was then named in his honor. It opened in 1971& was designed by Edward Durrell Stone. Allan & I made sure that we were able to see The Kennedy Center. It is a vast complex made up of 3 mammoth theaters, an opera house, a concert hall, & the Eisenhower Theater. Also, on the roof is the Terrace theater, the Theater Lab, & the American Film Institute! We happened to be in the largest area which is called The Concert Hall. It seats 2,500 people and is the home of the National Symphony Orchestra, which we heard and saw. We walked The JFK Terrace which stretches the length of the center. It's quite wonderful because it overlooks the Potomac River, & there are quotes by John F. Kennedy engraved into its marble walls. Quite impressive was the enormous room (600+ feet)) that serves as an entrance into the Opera House, the Eisenhower Theater, & the Concert Hall. It's officially called The Grand Foyer. Since I was such a fan of President Kennedy, I really loved the Bust of JFK that was created by Robert Berks. It's a bronze bust that stands in the Grand Foyer. Sadly, the sculptor began his work on the very night that Kennedy was assinated! One of the most elegant things that we saw there was inside The Opera House. There is an enormous chandelier that is made of Lobmeyr crystal & was given to the Center by Austria. There are 2 great halls called The Hall of States and %The Hall of Nations. One has the flags of each of the 50 states in America; the other has the flag of every country that the United States has diplomatic relations with. There is a smaller theater called Millennium Stage where free performances are given.
Since we went to a performance, we dressed up...I was in a dress, and Allan had on slacks and a sport's coat. Some people were dressed "to the tens" because some fancy performance was also going on that night. Even if you cannot attend a performance, take a free guided tour to see the inside of the theaters and all the rest. The 9:30 Club is an awesome place to see a band perform. The club is small enough that you can see the action even if you are way in the back, but big enough to get a great, energetic vibe going with a pumped up crowd. There is a an open floor section, no seats, and two levels of balcony seating. My personal opinion is that the best view is from the top balcony section by the third level bar. Speaking of the bars, for a small club like this they really serve some great beers here. Sure you can get your bud and your amstel light, but you can also get a Cherry Lambic or a Chimay ($11!). Beer prices range from $4 a beer and up. They also have a kitchen for all your club cravings. But I digress, this place is all about the music. This club hosts big names (Marylin Manson) smaller names (Dogs Die in Hot Cars) and names I'm ashamed I went to the 9:30 Club to go see (Howie Day). haha. Sorry to any Howie Day fans out there, but it just wasn't my style. You know you're at the wrong show when the majority of the fans in the audience are being chaperoned by their parents. All in all the place is funky and fun. (The restroom doors have Barbie and Ken dolls in glass boxes to note men's or ladie's room). Oh, and I my last trip there I discovered that there is a basement level bar right below the club level. Dark, smokey, and great place to have drunken conversation.
I guess it depends on who you're going to see play there. Pretty much anything goes - it's a club. I can't imagine a situation where you would be out of place in jeans and a T-shirt. The Brickskeller is one of the most, if not the most, well know Beer Bar in Washignton DC. It is my favorite place to drink beer, but it can also get to be a little expensive since their beers are hard to find. The hold several awards, including the Guiness World Record for most beers sold. It has an Upstairs Bar with plenty of sitting room, and a more cozy downstairs. There are no TV's in either the upstairs or the downstairs bar, this is a strictly beer drinking bar.....I am so glad is 50 seconds away from my apartment. They also have a food menu which includes a great cheese board, pirogues, and buffalo burgers. Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: 1523 22nd St, NWPhone: 202-293-1885Directions: Metro: Dupont Circle. This is one of my favorite bars in DC. It is a very hip, and fashionable bar. Some great DJ's spin nightly downstairs. Their Menu and food is extensive, and their beer selection is out of this world. There is a bar upstairs with sitting room for lunch or dinners, while the downstairs is a little more laid back. The downstairs has comfortable couches, the DJ booth, a Bar, and TV's. In the summer time you can also seat outside. Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: 1847 14th Street, NWPhone: 202.265.7839Directions: Intersection of 14th and T StreetsWebsite: http://www.saint-ex.com

If you're at all into the arts, check out what performances will be at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts when you're in town, because this place gets the cream of the artistic crop, from theatre to dance to music. It is the United State's national cultural center, and also a memorial to President John F. Kennedy. One of my favorite memories of Washington D.C. is of seeing the great Rudolf Nureyev dance here. He was well past his prime at the time, but I was thrilled nevertheless. The center is right on the Potomac River, not far from the Lincoln Memorial. Unfortunately for me, I took no pictures of this place. At least I thought to buy a postcard to remember it by.

We were traveling to DC during the big fight (see my travelouge for details) and we had to find a place where we'd be able to see the fight and also enjoy something to eat. My babe's only request was to be able to see the fight. I did some research before arriving to DC and very few places were broadcasting the fight live and Buffalo Billiards was one of the few. I put myself on as many guestlists as possible as we weren't about to miss it. We found Buffalo Billiards was the perfect choice for us due to its proximity to the hotel. We were very pleased with our selection for viewing the fight. Buffalo Billiards has 25 billiard tables (Ferni is a semi-pro), dart boards and shuffleboards it was a fun place to be. It's huge with some really great bar food. The chicken fingers, fries and nachos were the best I've tried in any bar recently. Our waiter made sure to come by often even thought the bar was jammed, he kept our drinks coming. As I mentioned above, we were here to see the """DeLa Hoya vs. Mayweather""" fight so the place was packed on a Saturday night. The best part was that they didn't require a cover charge and because of this, the atmosphere was lively and vibrant. We arrived early to play a few rounds of billiards, get a good viewing spot (we had the best in the place) and get something to eat. With a great selection of beers (even a great Belgium) on tap, a good selection of bar food (the chicken tenders were excellent), you are sure to have a good time with a nice meal at a small cost.
