Madam's Organ: Where the Beautiful People Go to Get Ugly

Madams Organ is one of the most fun bars in Washington. Located in the heart of Adams Morgan, Madams Organ is a multi-story bar with numerous bars, good food, and outdoor patio seating. The bar is also popular with local and regional bands, who frequently play live music throughout the week. This is a great bar with a unique personality and should definately be visited!

After 9:00 PM a cover charge is charged.

    Madam's Organ: Madam's Organ

I followed a tip from a fellow VTer and went to check out Madam’s Organ in the Adams Morgan area and I will say that this is a true American restaurant and bar with lots of character. I’ll give it that.

There was a five dollar cover which wasn’t bad for a live band to be playing. I ended up leaving because I was so tired after touring all day. The bad hadn’t started at 10:30 and I was just exhausted.

The place is popular so if you want a front row seat to the band you should get their early. That was advice that I followed but where I was so tired it back fired. I should have taken a nap and then went.

The beers there were $7 for a Guinness so I thought that was a little step. The bar tender there was entertaining and I could tell I was sitting at the bar with some old time locals that were regulars at the place. Enjoy your time here!

Adams Morgan is a culturally diverse community with lot of restaurants, nightclubs, coffee houses, bars, bookstores, art galleries and unique specialty shops. The restaurants feature cuisine from just about everywhere from Ethiopia and Vietnam to Latin America and the Caribbean. This neighborhood is the center of Washington, DC's liveliest nightlife and is popular with young professionals.

    Madam's Organ: Adam's Morgan

First things first if you go to the Adam's Morgan neighborhood in DC, do not drive after 7 or 8. You will either have to valee park or drive around for hours to find parking. I would recommend taking a cab.

Once you get there, there are a ton of bars and clubs to choose from. Madam's Organ seems to be the popular tourist spot, and while it is reknowned as such and often has great music, it gets crowded and stuffy.

If you are looking for a college style drinking establishment try the Spagetti Garden or Millie and Al's. A really cool bar in Adam's Morgan is Reef - I would recommend checking it out first. It mixes the feeling of a bar or pub and a nightclub very well.

Dress Code: Come as you are.

Adams Morgan: Adams Morgan? or was that Madam's Organ?

by ccmoira Written Apr 9, 2003

This is the place to be for everyone! Come a bit early in the evening and find some great Cajun, Ethiopian, Mexican, Brazilian, and French cuisine... I'm sure I'm leaving something out.
Then, later, be prepared for crowds of students and strangely dressed people on the weekends. There are many, many bars all along the main street.
After you've soaked your liver, grab a piece of greasy pizza at one of the many all-night pizza places. There will be lines and jumbles of people spilling out into the street, stuffing their faces.
I can't recommend any single bar. The best thing to do is bar-hop. The bar Madam's Organ is supposed to be the best but there is a cover on weekends (5$ I think). It has three floors with different atmospheres on each.

Dress Code: For the restaurants it probably varies, but overall it's not a bad idea to look good, especially if you're bar-hopping afterwards and want to have a little action ;)
Other than that it just depends on where you go but most places are pretty casual.
