Although not in Washington DC., This was a memorable restaurant. Servers dress in period clothing. The food was great and very well worth the money! Try the Sunday brunch! One of the best Sunday brunches we have EVER had!
Favorite Dish:
Sally Lunn Rum Laced French toast. (Sunday Brunch)
French toast with bananas, blueberries and melted brie along with rum. INCREDIBLE!!!!
OR
Eggs Chesapeake (Sunday brunch)
Eggs over a biscuit with ham and lump crab cakes covered with Hollandaise sauce. To top it off you get asparagus and absolutely delicious potatoes.
The food, wait staff, decorations and everything are supposed to be from the days of George Washington. It is definitely a must, if you come to Washington for the historical experience. The waitstaff speak with a colonial flare.
The food is strictly old-style colonial - meat, meat and meat. Add a few potatoes and a beer.
Favorite Dish:
Hunter's pie - meat and butter!
The entire menu is pre-1800. As you come in, you will find a marker showing what had happened at Gadaby's Tavern on that day. When we were there, Washington, George Mason, and Lafayette had a meeting at a table in the back corner
Gadsby's Tavern in Old Town Alexandria.
The restaurant is in the original building from the 1700s and they say that George Washington frequented the place. The waitresses and waiters are all in period costume and, during dinner, a man in costume (wig and all) came through each room to give a toast and talk with each table. It was very well done. The food and atmosphere make this a great place to spend an evening. After dinner, check out the adjoining museum for a lamplight tour.
Favorite Dish:
I had the trout stuffed with crabcakes and my mom had the salmon. Both were excellent, as were the side dishes and even the bread.
