Paddling hard on Tidal Basin

The best workout in Washington DC is walking in the National Mall. If you are tired of walking, visit Tidal Basin and try paddling. The photo was taken from Jefferson Memorial looking towards Washington Monument. There's no shade once you paddle out on the water.

Pro Basketball-women -- Washington Mystics

Washington DC's women's professional basketball team, the Washington Mystics, play in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Like the men's team, they play their home games at the MCI Center in downtown DC. The season runs from May through September. I have to admit, I have never attended a Mystics game . . . Visit www.wnba.com/mystics/ for information.

Professional Basketball-men -- Washington Wizards

Washington DC's men's professional basketball team, the Washington Wizards, play in the National Basketball Association (NBA) at the MCI Center in downtown DC. The season runs from October through June. Like I said about hockey, I've been to a few games but don't know much else about the league. I'm more of a college basketball fan -- and the Georgetown University Hoyas (who play in the NCAA's Big East Conference) also play their home games at the MCI Center. For Wizards information, visit www.nba.com/wizards/.

Professional Hockey -- Washington Capitals

MCI Center, Capitals' Home Ice

Washington DC's professional hockey team, the Washington Capitals, play in the National Hockey League (NHL). Their home ice is the MCI Center in downtown DC, near Chinatown. The season runs from October through April. While I have been to a few games and enjoyed them, I don't know much else about hockey or the league (sorry). For details, visit www.washingtoncapitals.com.

Equipment: Be aware that all bags -- and persons -- are subject to search. While at the game, practice good hockey fan etiquette and wait for a stoppage in play before leaving from or returning to your seat. (OK, so I know *one* thing about hockey . . .)

Washington DC's Major League Soccer (MLS) team is DC United. They play their home games at Robert F. Kennedy (RFK) Memorial Stadium, in SE Washington DC. The season runs from early April until late October and games are usually on Saturday nights. After winning the league three out of the first four years, the team is struggling to return to glory. Tickets are generally available for every game, even at game time. Visit www.dcunited.com for details.

RFK also hosts international friendly and competitive games featuring both the US National Team and visiting clubs. These games will usually be announced on the DC United website; National Team games will also be detailed on www.ussoccer.com

Equipment: Be aware that all bags -- and persons -- are subject to search and large bags are prohibited. Outside food and drink are also not allowed.

short day hike

If you get tired of doing city stff you can spend a half day hiking the billy goat trail. The trail is best accessed from Great Falls park on the Maryland side and it winds its self down to Georgetown in the city. So... you could also start at Georgetown and go North on it.

The Washington Nationals are DC's baseball team. The team is fairly new as they just moved to DC, but we used the Washington Senetors before the team was sent to Canada. They play at RFK stadium.

Since Washington DC has lots of monuments made of sleek / smooth surfaces it is a paradise to Roller Bladers & Skateboarders. Just don't get caught by the police.
