Only saw the house through the front gates....can probably get a tour. There was a White House visitor office 1/2 block down pennsylvania avenue.
The White House is an impressive building, even if you do not get to tour inside! Check out WhiteHouse.gov for info concerning tours. You have to arrange for a tour 1 to 6 months in advance.
The White House is a beautiful home with a large fountain in the front. They were working on Pennsylvania Avenue while I was there; however, you can walk to the fence and see it just fine.
