We flew arriving at Dulles and the transferring to Reagan to be met by the courtesy car from our motel
The Ronald Reagan Airport, is probably the most interesting airport I've spent time at. We waited there for about an hour and a half for our bus to Dulles Airport and it was very easy to fill in time with the large number of stores there .In comparison Dulles was dull.
If you don't have much time take a tour. We took the Public Building tour and for our purposes it was very good.
We flew into Reagan-National Airport and rode the Metro into town. This was a good way to get there but be advised that this airport has a curfew of 10:00PM!
Because of the curfew and some weather we had to SPEND THE ENTIRE NIGHT IN THE AIRPORT and leave the following morning!!!
Dulles has no curfew and has longer runways but is much farther out.
The Metro is very nice and clean and a pretty quick way to get around.
For sightseeing we used the Tourmobile (www.tourmobile.com). It is operated by the National Park Service and is the only operator licensed to stop on the Mall. If you purchase your ticket in the afternoon you can ride the rest of that day and all of the next. You can get on and off as much as you want and they will take you to all of the sights on the Mall, all of the major memorials (Lincoln, Jefferson, etc) and to Arlington Cemetery. The ticket also includes a tour inside of the cemetery. All for less than $20.00 USD.
Fly into one of the major airports, for me it was Dulles International & then take the shuttle. I returned to the airport at the end of my stay by cab and it cost over three times as much! Embassy Row Hilton is 15 minutes from Ronald Reagan Nat'l Airport. and one half block from Metro (subway)/
All sorts of public transportation, mostly buses but I preferred to walk--by far. You really see what you're looking at that way. Everybody was on foot & moving pretty briskly. Metro, the subway system is available at DuPont Circle & is one half blk. form Embassy Row.
There are three major airports in the DC area Dulles international Airport out in Loudoun County Virginia is where all of the international flights come in and most of the major airlines and there is Baltimore Washington Airport in Anne Arundle County Maryland. which handles the less flights into DC as well as Reagan National Airport which is in Arlington County.
The best way of getting around in DC is using the Metro System there are many metro station all throughout the DC Area ranging from Alexandria and Vienna Virginia to Rockville,College Park and Suitland Maryland all of these lines flow into the Federal zone where all of the Federal buildings are.
This airport is gorgeous... and how nice to have the Metro Line right there! Much easier to get around in DC than many other US cities!
I am a memeber of the star alliance, so i am always flying with memeber airlines.
This is one of the three major airports in the Washington DC area. Dulles is located in northern VA.
