Ashford Things to Do

  • Recycled Spirits of Iron Sculpture Park

The most amazing sculpture park around! Dan has taken old pieces and scraps of metal and created art from it. Some of our favorites are the Giraffe and the Horse. It's amazing what a little imagination can do, don't miss this one.

Most people drive to Ashford. The closest airport isn't close enough to allow for affordable taxis and a city bus, after all your transfers, would take you at least day. Cars are a MUST!!
Well, if you're going to be going out in town you'll need to use a car. In the park, you can hike, but it's a pretty long hike.

Well as with all natural settings there is a possibility of running into wildlife. The problem here is that so many visitors to the park do things they're not supposed to, like feeding the animals. This makes the animals more aggressive and they tend to venture into campsites because of the familiarity created when we feed them, so DON'T FEED THE ANIMALS. Keep an eye out for critters and take as many pictures as you can.

Ashford What to Pack

  • Packing List

Any type of luggage is fine but, a backpack is great. I would recommend coming prepaired for any kind of weather. You never know when it is going to drop below 30 degrees F. It could be 80 in Ashford and only 50 in Paradise. Dress in layers - Be prepaired!

If you're backpacking and hiking pack light. But include the items listed below. Buy your food prior to reaching the site. The cost of consumables increases rather dramatically the closer you get to the park. If you're visiting during the winter months bring good hiking shoes or snow boots with excellent tread. Warm clothes are a must and if your...

Ashford Favorites

Favorite thing: The moment you enter, this vast wonder of nature begins to work on all of your senses. Trees that are hundreds of years old tower above you while the foliage is so lush and green it takes you back to a time when there was nothing but beauty and you can only stand in awe. When you visit Mt. Rainier make sure you stop to enjoy the view of the multitude of waterfalls. Most are easily accessible. Hike up as far as you can go. There is a trail that most people take that leads up from the observatory, it is paved and is fairly easy no matter what your physical ability is. If you prefer the non touristy hike then take advantage of the beautiful trails that are nestled in the park.

Fondest memory: The morning after we arrived and set up camp my daughter stepped out of the tent and saw the park in all its glory for the first time. With the first break of sunrays shining on what appeared to her to be the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen, undisturbed nature in all its glory. The look on her face was nothing less than priceless.
