Things to Do

Island County historical museum

Island County historical museum, Coupeville

Jonathan_C Says:  Don't be put off by the appearance of this small museum. Next to the blockhouse stands what looks like a private home. A peek in the door reveals a small exhibit space that doesn't seem encouraging at first. Go ahead -- step inside and pay the nominal entry fee ($6 for a...

whale skeletons, trinkets and boat fuel

whale skeletons, trinkets and boat fuel, Coupeville

Jonathan_C Says:  Walk out to the wharf for the view of Coupeville. There's also the skeleton of a young gray whale that beached near here. The stores in the wharf are full of tourist junk but you can refuel here if you're coming by boat.Classic Coupeville -- historical / touristy /...

Carmanah Says:  In my August 1999 visit to Coupeville, we visited the Coupeville wharf again. If you compare this photo to the one above, you can see that they renovated the wharf.Photo: Me (at age 18), my mom and my sister in Coupeville.

The Cove Thai: Delicious food, great service, Coupeville

treewatcher Says:  Authentic cooking from people who are from Thailand. (They offer great travel tips too). You can tell the food is made with fresh ingredients - vegetables are not canned or overcooked. I love ending the meal with their black rice, it's the perfect dessert - creamy,...

Knead and Feed: fresh baked goodies

Knead and Feed: fresh baked goodies, Coupeville

Jonathan_C Says:  The Knead and Feed is usually our regular stop for goodies before our traditional Ebey's Landing hike. They also have great breakfasts (before 11am) and tasty soups and sandwiches for lunch.(Check my Ebey's Landing page for a Sunday brunch suggestion.)

The Mad Crab: a great view

The Mad Crab: a great view, Coupeville

Jonathan_C Says:  The Mad Crab serves large portions of great food along with an extra big helping of view. You can look out over Penn Cove toward Mt. Baker from every table while children doodle with crayons. And they have something for everyone. We ended up getting fish and chips for our...

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Coupeville is located on Whidbey Island. There are several beaches and parks located a short drive away from Coupeville. Bring all your beach clothes (sandals, shorts, swimsuits) and all your beach gear (beach balls, beach chairs, sun screen) because chances are, you'll probably need it!

Jonathan_C Says:  If you've got little ones, you should hike up the gravel path from the pier to get to the Coupeville park. They have nice grass and trees and new play equipment including swings a slide and a jungle gym. This is also where they have outdoor concerts in the summer.

Carmanah Says:  walk down the main docks. There's the Coupeville Cafe and Harbor Store at the end of this dock. In this photo, my mom, myself (at age 12) and my sister are looking over at the seagulls scavanging for food along the shore.

Carmanah Says:  Walk down the street and explore all the cute little shops and restaurants. The main street runs along the waterfront, and some of the shops are located on the docks.
