Tulip Town is one of the two 'destinations' during the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. The other is Roozengaarde. Don't be fooled by the American sounding 'Tulip Town'. The owners are Anthony and Jeanette deGoede who immigrated from Holland in 1956. (Is any other nation so closely linked to a particular flower?)Tulip Town is one of those places that...more

My daughters and I stopped by the Pier 7 Restaurant to check the deck but ended up smelling food! So, we sat down and ordered hamburgers. Believe me, the hamburgers are huge and served on the side tons of french fries. But, hungry as we were walking on the isles of the tulips's farmers, we gobbled them up! The view is excellent. You can see the...more
The Boardwalk Fish and Chips and Espresso Bar is roomy, bright and cheery. Friendly, helpful server. Worth a visit to La Conner just to try the fries if you are a fish & chips fan. The fish is okay, the coffee fine, but the French Fries are Divine!! My cousin and I, both seniors and extensive travellers, agree that they are the best we have had....more
Overlooks the river, with in-door and out-door deck dinning. Organic feel to the place, parts of the building are older than others, it's been added on to for years. Lots of wood everywhere. The food I would rate as good. For someone from Bellingham it's good, for someone from New York or Wilshire it may not be up to your standards. Someone from...more
Biking is the way to go for the festival time. There will be so much traffic around that it won't be much fun to sit in the car. Park in town or out of town for even faster way to get out of town when the time comes...

If you are not careful, your shoes end up getting mud! There are soft soil spots on the patches between the tulips and they look like they are dry but once you step on them, you end up getting in the mud! There are no wash area so be careful where you are stepping. Also, don't go between the patches because the farmers don't like that. They want...more
Walking or biking to the tulip fields is breathtaking! Really! But here it is, you want to hear? When you have children, make sure to bring them to the bathroom first before heading down to the tulips fields! There are porta potties (portable bathrooms) placed in the middle of the fields but sure is, there is a long line of people! Plus, it is not...more
It depends actually. This year, 2010, there are still puddles of water in the fields because it rained two days earlier. So, it is best to bring a jacket just in case it gets windy and cold in the farm. We had extra jackets in the car, so we went back and took them out. It was pretty cold and chilly out there!
Photo Equipment: You will regret the rest of your life if you forgot to bring your camera. It is a photographer's heaven out there!
