"Boiled" wine and pretzels in München Haus

by omehes Written Jan 10, 2014

In the corner of the village centre, there is a nice place called M√ľnchen Haus. They offer nice "boiled" (mulled) red wine, pretzels and all kinds of bratwurst. You can sit outside in the garden and in winter you get coal burning pans on your table to warm your hands and selves. Worth visiting.

    The crazy t-shirts in Leavenworth

by joiwatani Written Sep 28, 2011

I noticed that there are so many t-shirt prints in Leavenworth. It's so funny that most of the stores have t-shirts hanging on their doors and these have sayings or jokes in them. Sometimes the sayings are nice and sometimes these are offensive. Make sure to have an open mind when you go there. It's all about the marketing.

After downing some German beer and a meal, what better thing to do than stroll through the riverside park and take in the sights. It will burn calories, please the eyes, and get you some relief from the crowds. It is an easy walk, mostly flat.

Watch the Dancers on a Saturday Night!

by Albernfrau Updated Apr 4, 2011

On Saturday night we provided with great free entertainment in downtown Leavenworth by the Maypole. Johnny V played his accordian and local dancers took to the sidewalks and gazebo and showed off their great dancing abilities. Anyone is welcome to dance though and a few gutsy folk did. He plays Saturday and Sunday during the day and night throughout the summer. See the website for exact times as they are subject to change.

    Shop in the Many Stores

by Albernfrau Updated Apr 4, 2011

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

There are so many shops it makes you dizzy. Each are neat. Many contain the same type of souvenir items but there are numerous specialty shops where you can definitely get unique items. Many gallery stores with neat art, ie. metal sculptures. Leavenworth has a real eclectic mix of shopping which makes it interesting. Between all the shops are great places to stop for an ice cream, a coffee or just relax on a bench. The items in the shops range from dirt cheap to out of this world expensive. Some of the music boxes were thousands of dollars as well as some of the art. Front Street is the best area but don't miss all the side streets which are full of shops too. Most stores don't open until 10am and close between 7 and 8pm.

The flowering pots in Leavenworth are beautiful
    4 more images

Each building in Leavenworth have overflowing flowering pots with colorful Petunias, black eyed Susan, Marigolds, Sylvias, Begonias, Dahlias, and other flowering plants I can't name. There are many flowering pots hanging on each street poles. Every window of the buildings and stores, you see these flowering pots. There are flowering pots on the roadside, front of the hotels, lodges, inns, banks, restaurants and every business establishment. Leavenworth is so colorful because of the flowering plants. I just enjoyed them! The village center has been planted with these plants in purple, yellow, pink and white.

    Driftwoods carved into his image

There are local artists selling their crafts, paintings, jewelries, sculptures, candles, jars and woodcarvings at the village center. There is one artist who especializes in woodcarving drift woods. My daughter pointed out that the artist look like his woodcarving art. Each of the items on display look like the artist - with long hair and with a long swayed beard!

    The Peruvian Nativity Set

I found some unique Christmas items from skimming one Christmas store from another. This store is kind of difficult to spot since the sign is not big to see and it is located on the second floor of one of the buildings at the Front Street. The name of the store is Jubillee Global Gifts. It has the most beautiful handcrafted items made by people around the globe! These crafts are handmade from economic co-ops in poor communities around the world.

    The main street at Leavenworth
    1 more image

The gelato in Leavenworth is much cheaper than those you buy at the Alladin Hotel or at the Venetian hotel in Las Vegas! My daughter introduced me to gelato since I haven't known it until she got back from Italy! She said "Mommy, you have to taste the gelato!" So, I did. We found one, fortunately, at the Front Street in Leavenworth. To buy for my whole family, it only cost $12.00!

    The Cascade Mountains
    1 more image

The drive to Leavenworth is so beautiful. The Cascade Mountains is thick with lush evergreen trees, pine trees, and redwood trees. The rivers snake down the road creating white color as the water hits the rocks below the mountains. There are waterfalls that cascade through the edges and these were the results of melting snow caps on the peaks. The view is exhilirating and spectacular!

    A typical street in Leavenworth

You'll find many great German restaurants, cute Bavarian-themed stores, antique shops, gift shops, bookstores, candy shops, toy stores and more. The architecture is really what attracts people to this town.

    Tubing down the river

    by virgil_likes_rum Written Jul 25, 2006

Tubing down the wenatchee and icicyle (spelling?) river was such an awesome time. the website says 3hrs but it took us 4 and almost more (for which Im told they charge extra). renting the cooler intertube was the way to go and these tubes were so comfy. not too good for a fat bastard like one of my buddies, but he made do. the company we used is located in downtown leavenworth and they are called Tube Leavenworth. google their name for directions, phone number. Tubes were about $12 a piece and the cooler tube was $10. Pack some water next to all that beer too, we didnt and our afternoon after the tubing was shot since we were so sleepy from all that beer. i was actually stumbling afterwards...sheesh! there is a small bridge you can jump from too, you'll probably see people doing it. just paddle to shore and have a buddy hold your tube while you jump. it's near the end of the float.
