The Spirit of Washington Dinner train starts in RENTON. This posed a problem for me because I didn't have transportation. Eventually I figured out that I could get to the terminal on the public transportation bus from Seattle, transferring and then walking for a good ways.
The train ride was wonderful. It went along LAKE WASHINGTON which is 3 miles wide and 27 miles long and covers roughly 22,138 acres and past MERCER ISLAND the only island in Lake Washington and across WILBURTON TRESTLE. The trestle in Bellevue is the longest wooden trestle in the Northwest. It measures 102 feet in height and is 975 feet long. It was constructed in 1891.
We ate dinner on the train - it was kind of a bummer to eat alone, but the dinner was delicious. Current dinner menus feature Prime Rib, Oven Roasted Breast of Chicken, Crab Crepes and Cherry Smoke Roasted Salmon. At the other end, we visited the COLUMBIA WINERY (tour and wine tasting)and we had dessert on the way back.
I shared a cab back to the city with some guys who very helpfully walked me from their hotel where we got off back to the monorail and fended off some unsavory characters in downtown Seattle.
