The Blue Angels were practicing for the Seafair Air Show while we were on the observation deck of the Space Needle. An unexpected treat for us! Leave a Comment

You can see Mount Ranier as you drive south of Seattle. It is a dormant volcano. Snoqualmie Falls is a tall waterfall, not as big as Gulfloss in Iceland, bigger than the US side of Niagara Falls, is about 30 km (20 mi) east of Seattle near I-90. This is a photo of the Space Needle, which was built for the 1962 World's Fair. Compared to other towers in other cities or even compared to the buildings in downtown, it is not too tall. There is a revolving restaurant under the observation deck. Leave a Comment

The Space Needle was constructed for the 1962 World´s Fair in Seattle. It´s the city´s main landmark building. 605 feet (184 meters) high. On a clear and sunny day visitors can have a great view across Puget Sound, Mt. Rainier, the Cascades and Olympic mountain ranges from the Needle´s observation deck. Leave a Comment

Do the touristy thing -- take the Monorail, see the Space Needle & play indoor minature golf next door. It's lame, but it makes you feel like you're on a vacation with your parents. Aside from maybe Anaheim, I haven't seen this much retro vacation cheese anywhere. It's kooky fun. Leave a Comment

Seattle is a beautiful city with many things to do. The areas that my wife and I enjoyed were: The Space Needle and Pike Place Market. The Space Needle is probably known by just about everybody who has heard of Seattle. It stands very close to Puget Sound and affords a beautiful view of it and downtown Seattle. Unfortunately, when we were there the waiting line just to go up was so long we would have had to wait for over an hour. We thought it would be a good idea to make reservations for supper in the restaurant at the top, but when we went to make them, it was booked; and we tried before noon! Oh well, it was still pretty impressive just to be so close. Pike Place Market is another really fun place to visit. There are many shops there and range from the touristy stuff like t-shirts and such to cut flowers that are a REAL bargain to fresh seafood. There is one shop that sells fish that is well known for the way they sell their seafood. The shop is set up where the fish and such are right there in bins for you to see; no glass bins to separate you from the goods. When you make your choice, there is someone standing nearby who then comes over and picks up your choice. He then THROWS the fish to another person standing behind the elevated counter where it is packaged according to how far you need to travel with it: plain butcher-style paper for the locals to leak-proof, airline-approved insulated foam packages that will keep the 'catch' for up to 48 hours. Kaye and I wound up with a pound of alderwood-smoked Alaskan salmon. Keeps a lot longer!
Our fondest memory of Seattle is our visit to a restaurant called 'Rock Bottom.' We ate there back in March 1997 when we first met eye-to-eye. I can't remember what I had for the main part of the meal, but I do remember the bread they served before the main meal came. It was made right there at the restaurant (which is also a micro-brewery). The bread is unique because it is made without adding yeast. Instead, they use one of their beers and the rising occurs because of the yeast form the beer! The bread is DELICIOUS! Leave a Comment

go see the Space Needle...it's pretty interesting and fun to see.
My fondest memory would be the night we went out to eat at the China Gate in the International District, then took a taxi to Pioneer Square and wandered around and into lots of the clubs there...we had a blast! We ended up dancing for hours in a club (can't remember the name), but they were singing and playing alternative stuff and we loved it.. the only problem was that I was wearing leather-soled shoes and didn't realize I was dancing in puddles of beer---pretty much ruined those shoes! There were no chairs, so you have to stand up and naturally the beat gets you going........ Leave a Comment

I always take a visitor to the Space Needle as the views are fantastic. (Not recommended for those afraid of heights or elevators) A ferry ride is a must and if you can make it to one of the San Juan islands, all the better.
When I am away from home, I miss the green, the mountains and believe it or not, the refreshing rain. You can always tell a person who has grown up here, we do not use umbrellas.
