Fremont District, Seattle
FREMONT. Fremont is a neighborhood just north of the Seattle city center.
Fremont is anti-yuppie. Wonderful artisians, local crafts, good food and great public sculptures. (A giant imported statue of Lenin for example.)
Fremont is a $7.00 cab ride from downtown, totally walkable, and really fun. Safe at night.
For food, don't miss El Camino. Sante Fe style cooking (not native to Seattle) that is innovative and consistently good.
Did you know there really lives a troll under the bridge? Go have a look with your own eyes! He lives under the north end of Aurora Bridge (Highway 99) in Fremont ... Seems he snatched an old Volkswagen Beetle, too.
Freemont! known as the 'center of the world' this unique artistic community is truely unique. There are a number of locally owned shops and cafes that all have neat art on the walls and just really crazy things. I like the troll undrneath the bridge, and hes holding a real volkswagon beetle! Its a really big sculpture and its really easy to get to, just find the Freemont bridge (runs thru Freemont) then go under. There are a couple of cool vintage clothing shops too.
There is a Giant Troll under a bridge holding a real full sized VW Beetle . Normally I would tell you where it is but finding it is half the fun. Also make sure to take the underground tour in downtown Seattle. North of Seattle is Mt. Baker. You will Problably go the to see our wonderful damn, but don't forget to see the 'ICE CAVE'. It is something you will never forget!
