under the sea by Jonathan_C After seeing the fish mongers in Pike Market you owe it to yourself (and the fish) to hike down the hill and visit the aquarium. Here you'll be able to see the very same creatures alive and well in a naturalistic exhibit. You'll also be able to get aquainted with the various animals -- invertebrate, avian and mammalian -- you'll see when you go out to the coast. As always, you'll enjoy the aquarium most if you've done some homework. Before coming to Seattle you should definitely read a book on the natural history of Puget Sound. The deep, cold waters of the sound, combined with our temperate rainforest climate create a unique environment worthy of study and protection. Seattle's long history of fishing and environmentalism make us the perfect place for an aquarium along the lines of the great Monterey Bay Aquarium with an entirely local focus. Unfortunately, we don't yet have an angel like the Packard family to make this dream a reality. So come to the aquarium with only moderate expectations: the interpretation of exhibits is not the best. But the animals are still there for you to get aquainted with. Admission is $11. by Brehone The Seattle Aquarium is excellent. I used to be a kindergarten teacher and every year we would take our classes to visit this amazing center. I have been to several aquariums along the northwest and would say this one deffinitely ranks high on the list. Fish at the aquarium, on ice, just kidding by Venturingnow Let's begin with hours and prices. I warn you, the entrance fee for the aquarium is very pricey, but worth it. Adult 13 and up cost $11.00, Youth 6-12 are $7.00, Child 3-5 are $5.00 and Child 2 and under are free. The aquarium is open from 10-5 every day of the year, reduced hours on holidays are 10-3 I think. Ok, the Aquarium is home to a variety of native species such as salmon, sea and river otters, beavers, seals, snakes, squirells, frogs, puffins and other native birds, and a number of interesting fish and starfish. Leave a Comment Address: 1483 Alaskan Way, Seattle, WA 98101Phone: (206)386-4300Directions: The Aquarium is actually located on a pier on the Seattle waterfront, it's pier 59.Website: http://www.seattleaquarium.org/

The Seattle Aquarium is very interesting because they show different kinds of aquatic animals at a certain particular day. They have "Special for the Day" kind of. This week, they are showing different kinds of Octopuses- from the smallest to the biggest. There are also different colors of octuposes. Address: Alaskan Way, SeattleDirections: The Seattle Aquarium is located close to the waterfront, adjacent to Pier 57 and the Argosy Cruises. You can't miss it if you go down from the Pike Place Market close to the water.

This zoo is amazing - not the cruel type of zoo where animals are left in sterile cages, but 92 acres of parkland divided up into several geographic zones - everything from exotic Asian rainforest, a Thai elephant forest, and African savanna and a rugged northern region. You'll find all kinds of animals - apes, tapirs, lions, giraffes, zebras, snakes, gorillas, elephants, frogs, birds, otters, mountain goats, wolves, bears and more! Seattle Aquarium by jamiesno Here is a picture of the Aquarium I got from the Washington State ferry. I also walked by it a couple of times when exploring the waterfront. Unfortunately for me it closes at 5:00 pm in May and with my around the clock schedule the doors where all locked when I got there. So that is my only tip go there earlier! On the web site you'll see it does look like a nice facility. Leave a Comment

Feeding Time by Johnscarroll As an elementary school teacher, I visit these two sites with regularity: The Seattle Aquarium and the Woodland Park Zoo. The Aquarium is located at the midpoint of Seattle's tourist oriented waterfront - on the west edge of downtown. The aquarium is small compared with the likes of Monteray and San Diego - but I like it none the less. There is a great underwater viewing dome, a fascinating trip through a Salmon's life cycle, and dozens of beautiful aquariums. Don't miss the octopi exhibits. Puget Sound is home to the largest Octopi in the world. Further to the north is the Woodland Park Zoo. Again, it is small but well done. I grew up in San Diego - so I know what a good zoo is like. This is a good zoo, just on a small scale. All the exhibits are in natural settings. The admission price is reasonable, and parking is usually easy. If you are traveling with kids, these are great places to see. Leave a Comment Address: 50th & Phinney or the Central WaterfrontDirections: Take Aurora north and exit at Greenlake. Turn under the highway and the Zoo will be on your right at the top of the hill. The Aquarium is on Alaskan way next to Waterfront Park. Park under the viaduct or in a nearby lot/garage.
