Deception Falls
GuthrieColin Says:
For anyone thinking, these waterfalls look great but I don’t think that they are safe enough to bring my small children on, here is your answer. The loop trail at Deception Falls State Park is a great location for a short hike on a well developed trail which also has well...

Scenic Falls
GuthrieColin Says:
Scenic Falls is a waterfall that can be extremely photogenic or a complete wash depending on how much water is flowing. I’ve been to this waterfall about 5 times and each time I was hoping that the water level would be lower. Finally I got what I was hoping for and some snow...
Log Choke Falls
GuthrieColin Says:
Log Choke Falls is not a very creative name for this falls but it is fitting, that is until the log is swept away by some large volume of water. This log seems pretty well stuck however so the name will be suitable for a while. This waterfall is about 35 feet (10 meters) tall...
Alpine Falls
GuthrieColin Says:
Alpine Falls is about 40 feet (12 m) tall but caries a fairly large volume of water. It is also very easy to get to. From the turnout follow one of many paths to the river and work your way down to the base of the falls. The amphitheater around the falls makes for a very...
Klinger Grotto Falls
GuthrieColin Says:
Klinger Grotto Falls is interesting in many ways. It falls about 60 feet (18 meters) right behind a large boulder that prevents any direct views but adds to the mossy Washington-ness of it. The falls are located just a few hundred feet from the busy Hwy 2 but cannot be seen...
Stevens Pass
GuthrieColin Says:
Stevens Pass is in my opinion the best ski resort that is close to Seattle. It usually gets more snow than Snoqualmie and has a larger area. The runs are also longer. The Lodge has a restraunt that serves pizza and other non native food. It is fairly expensive but for the...
Railway Bridges
GuthrieColin Says:
While driving from Everett toward Wenatchee the views seen along the road are awesome. Their are several rail bridges along the way as the train tracks cross the river and weave with the road as well. Many of these bridges are over 100 years old but continue to see traffic...
Cascadia Inn: Skykomish's Historic Hotel
Elli99fh Says:
The Cascadia Hotel is an historic hotel with comfortable accomodations. The second floor rooms are cheaper, since there is a shared bathroom on that floor. The third floor rooms have private bathrooms (wow!). But no TV's. On the ground floor there is a kitchenette and lounge...
Mount Index Cafe and Lounge: Mount Index Cafe and Lounge
This restaurant is just about the only thing in the area for breakfast lunch or dinner. It has done a pretty good job too. It seems that most small towns must have at least one small diner that picks up the local eating out crowd. This one just happens to be right on the highway where as the town of Index is further up the road.

The Whistlin' Post: Good Old Fashioned Tavern
The Whistlin' Post is where you go in Skykomish to drink beer, shoot pool, play darts and socialize. It is within stumbling distance of the hotel. It is a good, plain, old-fashioned tavern -- dim, smoky and full of local flavor. The jukebox is surprisingly diverse.
If the right person is there, you can also get excellent pressure-fried chicken at the Whistlin' Post.

Bring snacks!
Elli99fh Says:
Skykomish at night. You're hungry. The restaurant at the Cascadia Hotel is closed. Indefinitely. The Whistling Post is open, but the person who makes the fried chicken isn't there. You now have the choice of a) the mini mart at the Chevron across the bridge, b) driving down...
Beware of the Train!
Elli99fh Says:
There is a train track that goes through town, which is not really the danger. We were staying at the Cascadia and the train whistle scared the **** out of me when it woke me in the middle of the night. I was sleeping so well I thought I was at home, where there are no...
