105 acre park. This place is incredible. I lived here for years before finding out about it, then couldn't believe I had missed out. Don't get me wrong, you don't wanna hop on a plane then drive to see Palouse Falls. However, if you're in this area, you won't believe what you DID discover when you DO drive to this place. For approx. 45 minutes you're driving toward this park looking at the flat....PALOUSE (as they call it around there). The Palouse is basically rolling, mid Washington state farmland. Then you get there and out of the blue, a mini Grand Canyon, with a beautiful 200 ft waterfall on one end, creating rainbows from the mist and a laid back park to view it from.

The park is open year-round for day use. Campground closed Sept. 22, reopens March 12.

Located 23 miles southeast of Washtucna, WA
    From SR 261:
Drive 13.5 miles west of Starbuck, or 14.4 miles southwest of the SR 261 and SR 260 junction and take Palouse Falls Rd. east.

The Shop at 9th and Perry. But it's more than Just a Another Coffee House. On Saturdays, during the summer, there's the free movie in the parking lot (bring your own chair). Every month features works by a different artist. The staff is super friendly and efficient. UPDATE: Now Serving Lunch, as well as the yummy bagels for breakfast.

The Arboretum is on the west side of Spokane and proved to be a delightful place to visit. It was May and many of the shrubs were in blossom. Here are several small Hawthorn trees in blossom, from a delicate pink to a deeper red.

The Arboretum covers 65 acres and was started in 1907. There are over 200 labelled trees and shrubs representing 600 species.

There is an excellent leaflet available to those making a self guided tour. There is no web site given but a phone number is shown below.

The Ninemile Hydroelectric Dam is one of 5 dams that compose the Spokane River Project. It was constructed between 1906 and 1908. The dam is 58 feet (17 m) tall and allows the water to flow over its top in a very man made looking waterfall.
The surrounding scenery, however, has made the site very appealing and the reservoir behind its face is used for recreation by many. Surrounding the Ninemile Reservoir is Riverside State Park which features hiking trails and camping as well as fishing and boating.

    Directions:
From I-90 take the Maple Street exit 280 and follow about 5 miles then turn left on WA-291 (Labled W Francis Ave). After 6 miles follow right on N 9 Mile Road. 2 miles later turn left on w Charles Rd. Look to your left over bridge.

This multi-event mountain has the world's longest gondola. It has great skiing in the winter, and in the summer there's concerts held at the top of the mountain. There's scrumptious restaurants and good bars to hang out at at the bottom of the mountain, (that is, if you didn't get enough fun in after spending time in the lodge at the top).

Located 1/4-mile off I-90, a 1 hour drive from Spokane.

    Dishman Hills Natural Area

  • Dishman Hills is a beautiful wildlife preservation located in the Spokane Valley area. It covers a very large area and has many wonderful hiking trails that can give you many different views of the Spokane area. Great place for back packers, hikers, and out door enthusiasts. It has two ponds with lots of wildlife around them, deep forest thickets, and rough mountain areas.

Several small trees are framed by the larger older tree in the Arboretum.

A pleasant place to visit on a warm Spring day.

    Auntie's Bookstore

  • Auntie's Bookstore is a really great place to buy books, games, eat in a cafe, and also buy used books. You can buy magazines from all over the world in Auntie's as well. They have authors come and read in the store and it is a great place to spend a lot of time browsing and relaxing. They have chairs set up around the store to sit in and read. Auntie's has a very relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

    Book enthusiasts should check...

  • Book enthusiasts should check out Auntie's Bookstore downtown. A lot of smaller restaurants are hidden away without any signs or anything around downtown also, most of which are interesting experiences.
