    Public Transit to Westport

by glabah Written Jan 3, 2012

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Gray's Harbor Transit bus routes 55 and 56 serve the Westport area several times per day from the Aberdeen area, and connections in Aberdeen provide a link to Olympia and from there pretty much anywhere that has public transit service of some sort.

Care must be taken in reading the timetables. Bus route 55 operates from Hoquiam through Aberdeen to Grayland, with occasional service into Westport. As Grayland is south of Westport, bus route 56 is used as a connector for those coming in to Westport, during those periods when bus route 55 does not operate northward into Westport.

For example, under the current timetable, there is a bus 55 that leaves Aberdeen at 3:30 pm. The closest it gets to Westport is the Westport Park and Ride lot, which is out on the main highway and not that close to Westport. It stops there at 4:00pm on its way to Grayland.

However, there is a bus 56 that leaves Westport at 3:45 pm and stops at the Westport Park and Ride at 4:00pm in order to transfer riders between it and the bus to Grayland. The 56 then continues back into Westport.

Several times a day, including the last run of the night (right now, that is 8 pm on weekdays), route 55 operates a full loop that includes both Westport and Grayland. As an example, the last run of the night leaves Aberdeen at 7:30 at night, passes through Westport around 8 (depending on where in Westport you are - it makes the complete loop through town all the way to the Marina). It then continues south to Grayland. On arriving at Grayland at 8:30pm it then turns around and goes directly back to Aberdeen, only stopping at the Westport Park and Ride lot.

Route 56 does not operate on Weekends. Instead, on weekends a very limited Aberdeen - Westport - Grayland loop is operated, which serves Westport only four times in a day.

The fares are broken into two zones: anywhere in Gray's Harbor County is a single zone of travel and costs $1. Anywhere between two points outside of Gray's Harbor County (ie, the routes to Olympia) are $2. A combination between Gray's Harbor and a point outside Gray's Harbor is $3. $3 is also the price of an all-day ticket. Transfers must be requested when boarding, and are not valid outside Gray's Harbor County. Also, transfers are only valid for use in the same direction of travel, so it is not possible to make a round-trip on the same transfer.

Westport to Ocean Shores Ferry is CLOSED

by glabah Written Jan 3, 2012

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

In April of 2008, the Ocean Shores to Westport ferry, which saved over an hour drive all the way around Gray's Harbor to get between the two cities, closed.

More details are below, but the fact is money has not been found to solve the Ocean Shores marina problem.

Thus, no ferry between the two.
