Tudor's Biscuit World: Biscuits Like Mama Used to Bake
Tudor's Biscuit World is a small regional chain, headquartered in Charleston, WV. The only place I have ever seen one is here in the Mountain State, where they are fairly common, although there are also a few in other states. That's why Karen and I felt we just had to have lunch here. It offers something that is not readily available elsewhere.
Favorite Dish: Naturally the "home made" biscuits are good. For a great cheap lunch, try the bowl of white beans with cornbread. Not only will it fill you up, but it's delicious too. The Chili Slaw Dogs are also good. They make hotdogs better here in West Virginia than anywhere I know. Click on the website link below to find a fuller menu.

The Outback Steakhouse: Not Quite Aussie but Good Beef
This was my first introduction to The Outback and was a favourable one. The bar was busy, and the service was great. The only thing was that they didn't warn about the copious quantities of food! It was a snowy stormy night and this was a cozy place to forget about the weather outside.
Favorite Dish: I loved the Bloomin' Onion. Now many other places are serving these so it isn't so unique, but I had my first at The Outback so it will always be special to me. *grin*
I haven't had a bad steak there, and I also like their roast beef.
Pasquales Italian Restaurant: Italian in Beckley
Nice place. Convenient Location. Reasonable prices. OK food. (Warm bread doesn't mean tasty bread... good house salad. OK pasta sauce...) Friend had a chicken dish w/ a cream sauce and capers. It looked / smelled much better than my baked ziti. Apparently this is the BEST local Italian restaurant, short of chains. Nice for special occaisions and/or business. We sat outside and had great weather. That was charming.
Favorite Dish: Pellogrino water was good. ; /
If you like salt...: You'll love 'THE CHAR!"'
Supposedly Beckley's Best, I found it a mesmorizing MESS! Old school (think 60s!) Clubby Look inside. Slate rock and beige hues.. a small cocktail bar that could be used as the set of the first 3 minutes of a porn flick... Simply tacky! And a dining room that at best looks like a Holida Inn convention hotel banquet room. Sorry for the imagery, but it's just old & tired looking. The grounds on the other hand are pretty. A small pond with geese and pretty greenery. The outdoors are about all this place has going for it. If you are looking for quality food in Beckley, go to Outback and save yourself money and heartache. I ordered baked scallops and it was salty. I ordered (a la carte) a side of mushrooms. Not only were they CANNED, but someone forgot to rinse off the canned salty flavor. A Mess! All I can say.
Service was OK. We were a group -- and a group of women no less -- and so our female server wasn't thrilled. I have been around restaurants long enough to know that servers don't like all woman tables. Apparently woman tables don't tip as good as men.
I was informed the owners of the Char also own Pasquales (the best Italian in town). My advice while in Beckley - Stick to Theme / Tried and true chain establishments.
Favorite Dish: I ordered, for the hell of it, fried olives, never having had them before. Tasted like conventional institutional "Poppers"... Skip them! Someone had an app of baked brie. THAT was good. Friend had crabcakes. NOT lump crab and made from swimmer crab at that.
Outback: Pretty Good
I ate here after reading Cdnjane's review. Plus it was the only decent restaurant I saw in Beckley. Great food & service. (Sam was my server and he was pleasant!)
Favorite Dish: Seared ahi Tuna Appetizer ROCKS! And the Wollaby Darned Peach Belini drink was super tasty.
