Here is an adventure, they used some long logs to build this platform, it kinda looks scary, but it is safe, at least when we were there (haha).
Fondest memory: We enjoyed our time on the knob. Looking out over Pocahontas County
On your way up, you will need to stop and refill your water reservoir. The steam to power these engine comes from a hot fire and a lot of water. It is amazing how fast this cold stream water will become steam!
Fondest memory: The water stop. Halfway up the mountain, gives you a chance to see the forest that you are passing through. It was also interesting how the pressure from the engine was used to syphon the water up from the stream.
The Cass Scenic Railroad has two types of Steam Locomotive, Shay and Heisler. The day we visited we were powered by the Shay #2, and it pushed us up to Bald Knob.
Fondest memory: This is a beautiful park, and a beautiful machine. I enjoyed all of the four and a half hour (4-1/2) ride!
Riding on some of the most beautiful trains I've ever seen through a beautiful park.
Fondest memory: I really enjoyed watching my son watch the train in awe.
