The Star Band Hall is the third community building in Helvetia. The first one was a "shack" located where the meadow now is. Residents sold wine by the glass by selling tokens which were exchanged for wine.
The Randolph Banner of May 18, 1922 noted that the Helvetia Star Band gave a dance on February 29, 1921.
The second community building was where the current Community Building now stands.
The current community building was built during the depression by local residents who turned down government funding. Eleanor Roosevelt took note of this and encouraged reporters to cover the dedication of the building. The story was on the front page of the Washington Star. The Swiss ambassador to the U.S. was en route to the ceremony but became sick and turned back.
This is the site for community meals, dances, and other activities

This is located across a little brooke that runs beside the main street in Helvetia. It is an old Church/School house. There is also another old building there, and a gazebo...it is located beside the brooke or creek.
It is very lovely.

This restaurant is located just as you turn into the little village of Helvetia. It is very quaint and lovely and you should stop and have some tea, even if you don't want to dine.
But, as soon as you smell the aroma of the food, you will want to eat. They also have a nice line of homemade breads, cheeses and dessert cakes/pies..so stop and at least have cake and coffee while in the area..
you will be glad you did.
