  • Tamarack is a complex of shops that feature items made by West Virginia artists and craftsmen. The shops are arranged in a large circle and you can get through them fairly quickly. Items features include glassware, artwork, clothing, wooden toys, musical instruments, knives, jewelry, and ceramics. There is also a food court and a theater in the complex. In addition, there are also periodic craft demonstrations, such as glassblowing, available for visitors.

Our favorite things to shop for at Tamarack are glassware and music. West Virginia is the artistic glass capital of the USA, and there is a great shop in Tamarack that features the full range of local products, including tableware, vases, ornaments, paperweights, and artistic items. Some of our best Christmas tree ornaments have come from Tamarack. In terms of music, there is a shop that sells CDs by numerous local artists playing traditional mountain music (similar to Bluegrass), as well as other types of music such as country and gospel.

    Gabriel's: Shop in Parkersburg

  • This shop is a "Seconds" shop because most of the things that you buy here are brand new but have mini-defects on them like a button is missing or there is a rip on a shirt or just plainly, the clothes did not pass quality control.

However, there are also many things to buy here that don't have defects. It's just that the "other" department stores have to dump their merchandise to Gabriel's for not being sold in their stores. Instead of donating the goods that they didn't sell, they sell these goods to Gabriel's.

The clothes here that you can buy are all "signature" clothes or "designer" clothes. You can buy designer shoes, purses, bags, glasses, perfumes and other stuffs that you can buy in expensive department stores like Bloomingdales, Martin's, Nordstrom's, Macy's, etc.

I love shopping here because the suits that I normally pay were very affordable. I can buy Armani, Donna Karan, Tahari, Hugo Boss, Elizabeth Arden outfits at a very affordable prices!

The last time I was in Gabriel's, I bought a wool area rug that fit my living room for only $75.00! I also bought two Armani suits, DK suits, a Hugo de Boss blazer and a Tahari Suit.

One time, my aunt was visiting with me and I told her about this store and she came with me shopping! She bought 16 outfits and she didn't even pay a lot. That's how inexpensive the store was!

When you come and shop here, make sure to spend at least 2-4 hours to check the merchandise you are buying.

You can buy anything here that you can buy at an expensive department store.

Depends on what you buy but most of the time, 50%-80% off the original price%

Tamarack is basically a large store just outside Beckley. I would highly recommend visiting this. even if it is sort of a tourist trap. All of the crafts , arts, books, musical instruments, and other things are made by locals and most of it is very nice. I have never seen such incredible stuff made out of glass before!! Most of it was very expensive but we did get a few small items made out of glass, such as some marbles and a small bear. I also got a few bottles of West Virginia wine and some honey. It's not your average tourist trap filled with t-shirts and plastic stuff!!
Just the building alone is worth a look.

Handmade crafts, made out of glass, wood, ceramics. Local food and wine.
