Favorite thing: I first saw the Doddridge County Courthouse, while on a road trip along the back roads of West Virginia in May, 2006. The massive red brick structure looked out of place standing on a mountainside overlooking the small county seat town of West Union. Perhaps the founders of the county had hopes and dreams for their community which are yet to be realized.
Doddridge County has seen better days, back when the railroad passed through these parts. Today the population of the county is struggling to hold it's own, hovering around 7,400. The old railroad right of way now carries the West Bend Rail Trail, providing access for outdoor enthusiasts who want to explore the verdant West Virginia mountains under their own power.
