This restaurant has "Sports Bar" in its name, but has decent food. Restaurant is big open room with a small, but VeryGood salad bar. Service was excellent & friendly. I would definitely go back if in the area again. Our bill for the 2 of us was $26.xx so reasonable for a tourist town.
Favorite Dish: German potato salad on the salad bar was super. Both of us had whitefish & it was excellent broiled & seasoned. Side of mixed veggies was blah &overdone, however, but not needed with the accompanying salad bar. Wild rice was 2nd side dish & was cooked to mushiness but very interesting. Almost tasted like had barley in it. O.K. for something different, but would not want very often.
Appears to be a local bar (also bed & breakfast) that is trying to be an upscale restaurant. Waitresses were "bar girls" & lounged ON the bar. Extra place settings were never removed from our table. Floor was dirty. Food was overpriced for what it was. Not a place I would go back! Couple at table next to ours was having the "fish boil" & had to send it back because was cold!
Favorite Dish: On the plus side.....Whitefish livers were excellent! Great meal if you love chicken livers. These are richer than chicken, but similar in taste. Side items were blah, however, & bad service kinda put the damper on it. Husband had the grilled whitefish, skin still on & said it was Very strong, unlike some we had the previous night.
Fine Quality upscale dining in an elegant setting. Victorian ambience, contemporary food - I ordered lamb prepared in a wine glaze that was probably the best I've ever had. Crisp fresh salads and well-made desserts, a small but choice wine list. My friends say that this is probably the best place to eat in Bayfield itself, though there are more options if you cross over to Madeleine Island or head south on SR 13.
Stop in the Blue Horizon cafe to get a good feel for the flavor of Bayfield. This is place frequented by lots of Minnesotans, and coffee here is strong and perky in the Scandinavian manner. Breakfast served here too.
Double latte with an almond biscotti, if you please. I'll sit on the porch and hope that the bees stay away.
Very high quality breakfast and brunch place, operated as part of the "Mary Rice" empire of Bayfield eateries. Long waits on summer weekends, but it's worth it.
