The Apple Festival
The apple festival is a huge fall festival in Bayfield. In 2006 my husband and I traveled from Duluth to check it out and were disappointed in the festival itself. I was imagining fresh apples, homemade goodies, local music and crafts. Instead most of the food available was fried, crafts were from another country, music was loud and the entire affair was a bit trashy.
Sorry to those who love the festival, but this is my opinion!
We did visit some great apple orchids that were great and I loved Bayfield as a town, but not as a festival.
Unique Suggestions: Buy some fresh apples
Fun Alternatives: Visit the local orchids. See 'things to do' for more information.
OK - it sounds like a blast - take a 2 hour tour of the Apostle Islands on a Schooner (big sail boat). For us, it was INCREDIBLY boring. The first 10 minutes - fun. The last 1 hour 50 minutes, back-and-forth-back-and-forth. Yawn.
Unique Suggestions: At least dress warmly - it's always way colder on the water than in town.
Fun Alternatives: Go fishing or kayaking (but you have to take a kayaking class to be able to kayak here - even if you already know how to kayak. That's weird.)
