    The Madeline Island Ferry

    the ferry approaches Bayfield

Regular ferry service - every half-hour in the summertime - between Bayfield and Madeline Island. The ferries have room for about 25 or so vehicles, and make the passage to La Pointe (on the island) in about 20 minutes. They continue to run in the fall and into the early winter as long as possible - until the lake freezes over. In the middle of winter, people who live on the island have to rely upon snowmobiles to get from the mainland to the island.

While you wait for the next ferry at the Bayfield dock, you can get out of your vehicle and stretch your legs. There's a gift shop, concessions, and restooms.
