I think this is the largest park in Fond du Lac's at nearly 400 acres. We've went to this park every year for Walleye Weekend, not to mention to visit the petting zoo run by the local convent. I'm not sure if you are allowed to climb the lighthouse anymore, but I'll try to find out. Because the park is located on the shoreline of Lake Winnebago young and old can get in some great fishing off directly off shore or rent a boat to venture further out. The park offers picnic areas, playgrounds, deer park, petting zoo, ball diamonds, marina, and 24 free boat launch ramps. There are rides for the little one which include a miniature train, roto whip, old-fashioned carousel, or you can rent bumper boats, hydrobikes and canoes.
Park open daily, dawn-11pm. Rides & rentals MD-LD, Mon-Sat 11am-8:30pm, Sun 10am-8pm.

The Fond du Lac Lighthouse has become the symbol of the surrounding city, located at the southern end of Lake Winnebago. As you travel the streets of Fond du Lac, the image of the lighthouse is readily seen on bridges, road signs, and advertising. The reason for the community’s affinity for the lighthouse is perhaps due to the fact that the beacon was built and lit during one of the city’s darkest periods.
In 1932, lumberman W. J. Nuss generously offered to build a lighthouse in Lakeside Park using plans donated by the noted architect Roger A. Sutherland. The offer was quickly accepted by the park board, and work on the forty-foot tower started the following May. At this time, the country was suffering through the depths of the Great Depression. Unemployment peaked at 24.9% in 1933, spreading a cloud of gloom across the nation. Charitably, the laborers employed on the lighthouse project were all out-of-work Fund du Lac citizens.
The bottom ten feet of the eight-sided lighthouse consists of a flagstone-covered base, while the upper section of the tower is of frame construction. A wooden staircase, attached to the interior walls of the lighthouse, winds up through the tower permitting visitors to reach the observation deck, where an excellent view of Lakeside Park is afforded.

The first weekend in June is a zoo in Fond du Lac. They host a yearly celebration and fishing tournament know as Walleye Weekend. It loaded with rides, games, food and of course fishermen. There are tons of things for kids to do and participate in. While here you must try the cream puffs, they are famous. Do not swim in Lake Winnebago though, people have been known to get some serious swimmer's itch from doing so.

On any Friday or Saturday night you can't get into this place unless you get here very early. Salty's has the best seafood in all of Fond du Lac County. They used to have an all you can eat snow crab dish on Sundays. They have the freshest seafood selection and will prepare it too order, baked, fried, blackened, broiled, however you like it. They also have the cheddar garlic biscuits like Red Lobster, only these are bigger, better and tastier.
Favorite Dish: Snow Crab-tender, flavorfull and all you can eat.

Now that I got your attention, there are strippers here, one night a year JukeBox Charlies sponsors a male revue show the night befor deer season opens. They call this hunter widows show or something like that. This american style restaurant is set up to look like a restaurant from the fifties. It's actually charming. After dinner there's dancing. They have a great fish fry every Friday here too.
Favorite Dish: I've only had burgers here.

Culver's has one of the best, if not the best, frozen custard in Fond du Lac. They make it fresh daily. You can get a variety of fast food items here, only don't count on getting them fast. They don't cook it until you order it so there is a bit of await, usually less than ten minutes. They have what is called a butter burger here, essentially its a burger cooked in butter and put on a buttered roll.
Favorite Dish: The Turtle Sundae, it's vanilla custard with salted pecan, hot fudge, hot caramel, whipped cream and a cherry. It's delicious.

Hoff's Red Owl grocery in Brownsville, Wisconsin, make their own great Bratwurst, at amazing prices. Brats at Hoffs are nearly always on special, sometimes as low as 99-cents a pound. Even at the regular price ($1.59), they're worth stocking up on. I always take some home, and everyone raves about them. If you're traveling, they keep pretty well for several days in a cooler, even without ice. They come in about ten different varieties, from Italian to Cajun, but purists will want to just get the Plain, or the Garlic (our favorite). You can phone ahead to request the current price.

If you get the chance, you should go see this group perform. Their concerts are free with a free will offering. This group is comprised of women of all ages who are absolutely fabulous to listen to. Their program changes from season to season and they put on 2-3 big shows a year for the public. The rest of their time is spent performing for the elderly, handicapped and terminally ill. I am partial to this group because I was a member when I lived in the area. This was a fabulous experience, but worth the time to go see.

Favorite thing: Every one has heard of Dairy Queen, I know that, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to post this great picture from one of my child care center's field trips. The kids all decided one day that as their reward they wanted to go to dairy queen. So with a couple of phone calls and getting parents to volunteer as chaperones, we were off for an ice cream treat a couple days later. To this day those kids remember watching the ice cream being made, learning how to make an ice cream cake and getting to get a treat of their choice. They had a fantastic time. The DQ was the one on Fond du Lac ave. It's much better than the one on Johnson Street.
