Favorite thing: La Crosse has some beautiful and well-maintained Victorian houses. If you like these nineteenth century wood-frame houses, La Crosse is an excellent place to explore a variety of styles and designs and paint patterns. Many of them are certainly a long way removed from "New England White"!
Favorite thing: Since there are 3 colleges in town, it is hard getting a hotel when graduations are going on. You may want to book far in advance for the middle of may. Also Oktoberfest is another weekend that is hard to find a hotel. Book in advance or bring a tent.
Go up to Grandad's Bluff and see the incredible view of the city, the valleys and the Mississippi River. From this point you can see three states - Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa.
Fondest memory: Partying at Oktoberfest! It's a total blast!
If visiting LaCrosse an excelent place to visit is Riverside Park on a sunny afternoon. The Mississippi River is one attraction of the park itself!
Fondest memory: My fondest memory of LaCrosse is the seasonal changes. The fall is beautiful with the colors of leaves; winter is white and decorative; summer is time to hit the pool; spring is blooming and chirping.
Favorite thing: Yellow might not be _my_ first choice for a house color, but I know that this is historically "accurate." I remember seeing home exactly this shade in Cambridge MASS.
