The Pabst Theater
Built in 1895, the Pabst Theater is the fourth-oldest continuously operating theater in the United States. Since its opening, most of the biggest names in twentieth-century music, dance, and drama have graced the stage at the theater. Such jazz musicians as Louis Armstrong and Dave Brubeck have played in the theater's Hal Leonard Jazz Series. Other legendary artists such as Enrico Caruso, Beverly Sills, Yo-Yo Ma, and Liza Minelli have brought their musical talents to the Pabst Theater. Old-time actors including Alfred Lunt, Lynn Fontanne, Katherine Hepburn, and Sarah Bernhardt have played in great dramas and comedies. Even politicians, including presidents, senators, and Sir Winston Churchill, have used the Pabst Theater for political rallies and speeches.
