The small Belgian town of Namur
Namur is in the middle of nowhere, about midway between Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay. Somehow or other, it has a very strong Belgian history. Although its not touristy, at all, and local people, if they find you are a tourist, will probably smile and try to give you directions to something interesting, its got some interest. Apparently there is a dialect of Wallonian French spoken here to some degree. Althought the town is only several hundred people, they have a somewhat unique church, serve Belgian beers and chocolates, and have some interesting scenery. There are a few more pics on my travelogue.Related to:

See Paul Bunyan & Babe the Blue Ox!
After spending a year at the University of New Brunswick, in Fredericton, I returned to BC with some classmates. We drove across the country in a Volkswagon van. I think we saw this statue of Paul Bunyan & Babe the Blue Ox in Wisconsin. Seemed appropriate as we were studying forestry!

Dickeyville Grotto!There are...
There are 'grotto's--gemstone-encrusted stone buildings or villages--all over the Midwest! You'd be surprised! The Dickeyville Grotto is a little bitty one that we found while getting lost on the way from Iowa to Illinois (Please note: Wisconsin is NOT on the way between these two states:)). It's really cute and it was free to wander around and look at the really intricate stone designs:) Highly recommended as a rest stop!

There is a great trail located close to the university in Eau Claire. The paths and trail's are in great condition and you can walk for miles. There is a beautifull rock that overhangs the river. Hundreds of people have carved there name on it. It was a very relaxing spot. This pic is of part of the rock.

THe Balloon Festival--it is held every spring around the end of May/early June near Baraboo, Wisconsin. We used to go every year after camping at Devil's Lake. There are hundreds of hot air balloons from all over that the sky is literally crowded with them. Amazing site and a great event to take the kids to. My father, the practicing photographer, took this picture.

ROOT RIVER PARKWAY--this is a 76-mile paved bike course that really lets you see southeast Wisconsin. My favorite stretch is the part that goes through Whitnall Park, which has to be one of the biggest parks I have been to...Greenfield Park is nice to--I used to ice skate and swim there as a kid.
Petit National Ice...
Petit National Ice Center--This is the Olympic training center for speed skating. Perhaps that is because at one point the entire US Speed Skating team was from Wisconsin! I actually skated with Dan Jansen (Olympic gold medalist for those of you who didn't know) when I was like 12. It is open to the public, and is the best skating facility I have skated in.

For the nature lover. Check out the Nickolet National Forest. Located along Hwy 32 in the northern part of the state. I recomend between Hwy 64 and Hwy 52.

Jefferson County, located...
Jefferson County, located halfway between Milwaukee and Madison, has a bike trail called the Glacial Drumlin Trail. It is a flat gravel trail that runs from the city of Waukesha to Madison and it is an easy and beautiful ride. Stop in the city of Lake Mills and pick up the trail there. Headed East or West, you can't loose. Heading West does take you over a lake and past a bison farm--very cool!
