If you are interested in history, the Reedsburg Historical Society has set up a log home village with actual buildings taken from the area. Take a look at how life was years ago. It is open from Memorial Day through Sept.

We have a "fishing hole" in Reedsburg that is there for the enjoyment of kids. You do have to supply your own equipment, but when your son or daughter catches their first fish, the look on their face will pay for it. The adults can fish with their kids. This park provides a place that the youngsters can go near their home, and have easy access to the water and fish. There are picnic tables and a dock available to fish off of. So bring a picnic and enjoy an afternoon or evening fishing with your children!

We don't have any special things that you would need to do when you come to our area. We are a small community but don't have any special customs other than the Friday nite fish fry. There are many local restaurants and local taverns that make an absolutely delicious fish fry. You can usually get a choice of fried or broiled fish, and many of the places offer all you can eat of the fish.

Devil's Lake has some lovely hiking trails, but you should stay on the marked trails. There are many rocks at Devil's Lake and there is a chance if you stray you could fall and be hurt. This is a lovely park and I highly recommend it, as long as you follow the hiking rules.

The Wisconsin Dells has a million different places to stay and a million things to do, but it is very busy in the summer. There are motels with waterparks in them and others that just have a outside pool. When making reservations to come to the "Dells", as locals call it, you may be surprised by the rates. If you are interested in the water tours and not a lot of people in the pool steer clear of the water parks.

Unique Suggestions: The Wisconsin Dells has some very beautiful scenic boat tours and a fun boat ride called the Ducks. The Ducks are a land and water vehicle.

There is an Indian Ceremonial you can go to see from a boat ride also.

The Tommy Bartlet Water Show is a nice water ski show. There are many, many little shops to buy a souvenir from, but the one I like the most is the Indian Trading Post. You can get all kinds of Indian jewelry, etc. from this store at a reasonable price.

Fun Alternatives: If you would like something without a lot of people involved you could come to Reedsburg, which is only 17 miles away on a lovely ride through the country, and go walking or biking on the 400 Trail. It is an old railroad bed turned into a nice country trail. You will probably see wild deer and turkeys and other wildlife along this trail.

There is shopping here without the hustle and bustle of the Dells. There are several nice motels in Reedsburg also.

There is also a casino just outside the Dells, that you can drive to or catch a bus to.

Reedsburg What to Pack

Luggage and bags: You don't need to bring any special luggage unless you would like to camp. We do have a number of campgrounds in the area.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: If it is winter time you will need a very warm coat, boots, hat, and mittens, because we usually have snow and cold temperatures.

If it is summertime shorts and short sleeves and your bathing suit will be used most often. You might want a jacket or heavy shirt along, because the nights can get a chill to them.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: We do have a hospital right in Reedsburg and there is also one in Baraboo, which is only about 25 minutes away. There are pharmacies right in town and one at the hospital for any prescription needs.

Photo Equipment: There is some beautiful scenery in the area, so you would probably want to bring a camera along to capture it all.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: There are several areas nearby that have a beach, we also have a public pool, and the motels have indoor pools, so bring your suit and some beach towels. Don't forget the suntan lotion, because even though we are quite far north we do get a lot of sun in the summertime.

We do have mosquitos so you may want to bring repellant or purchase some here.

Reedsburg Off The Beaten Path

    400 Trail

by blueeyestou Updated May 8, 2003

Reedsburg is off the beaten path to begin with, but if you would like to enjoy nature this is the place to come.

Reedsburg has the 400 Trail, a walking and biking trail that takes you through some lovely countryside. You can get on the trail right in Reedsburg.

If you like to canoe, you could go on the Baraboo River also right in Reedsburg. It is the longest free flowing river in the nation.

There are lakes nearby for fishing and boating or just laying on a beach. Lake Redstone and Dutch Hollow Lake and Devils Lake are all within a half hour or less from Reedsburg.

The Baraboo Bluffs are beautiful glacier made hills, with Devil's Lake state park right in the middle of them. Devils Lake has hiking trails on the rocks and swimming beaches. Stay on the trails though, because it can be very dangerous going off of the trail.

The Reedsburg Area Chamber of Commerce can help with other area activities. Their number is below.

Reedsburg Favorites

Let Me Sit And Watch The World Go By

by blueeyestou Written May 8, 2003

Favorite thing: The Reedsburg area is in a country setting. Because of this there are many activities one can do such as: camping, fishing, hunting, swimming, hiking, biking, horseback riding, site seeing, and more. I would have to say that my personal favorite thing to do in the area is to fish. It is a very relaxing sport and it gives one time to sit and watch the world around them. With the beautiful lakes and woods around here there is never enough time to "sit and smell the roses", and fishing allows one to do that.

Fondest memory: I lived in Florida for a couple of years when I was young, and I have to say that I really missed the snow. I would still miss the snow and the changing seasons today, if I was to go away.
