    Tellen Woodland Sculptures

This is really off the beaten path. It seemed hardly anyone could tell me where to find this place. The only reason I knew anything about it was because of a VT tip and not even the website for the garden gave directions on how to get there. (Take county EE east until it ends, then turn south and go one mile along the lake on Evergreen Rd, it is just past the fire house).

James Tellen isn't a famous sculptor. James Tellen isn't even all that famous in Sheboygan. He worked in a furniture factory doing the decorations and in his spare time cut the woodland sculptures from wood or stone. Judging by the works on display, he was of a religious mind, but there is also an Abraham Lincoln and some cute gnomes. The statues are on display outside in the forest, under a canopy of trees that lets light flow in and gives the whole experience a semi-mystical feel.

Not to be missed and free to the public.

    Cowboy Tableaux

Hidden in the woods surrounding a simple log cabin is a trasure. You're welcomed in through a 65 foot long trompe l'oeil masterpiece of weathered log fence, a Native Amercian family, a bear and two cubs, all made out of concrete and cement.

Other tableaux sculptures include Abe Lincoln, Jesus, man on a raft, a cowboy on a horse, drunken husband, elves making wine, a goat and skunk, St. Peter and a water fall, and many more.

These were created by James Tellen started in 1942 and continuing until his death in 1957. The sculpture garden is open year-round, dawn until dusk.
