You must go on a tubing! The Apple river moves at a slow pace, but fast enough so that you don't have to do the work! I stay at the Apple River Campground included in your price is a 20-30 minute bus ride, 1 tube rental, and all the fun you want.
Just imagine yourself on a tube, in your bathing suit, sipping down that cold one. Now I won't say that it is a quiet peaceful float (although sometimes it is). You load a bus at the Apple River Campground (the seats are along the windows so that the tubes can be placed in the middle), after about 20 minutes you and about 40 others are dropped off by the river and you can either tie together to form groups or just go alone. Smaller tubes are rented to hold coolers. I will say that people of ALL ages are on the tubes (maybe with the exception of toddlers) and it is one happy go lucky kind of atmosphere. Most of the people sit back, relax and have a cold soda or beer, but some have been known to use this four hour float time to 'catch' a good buzz. Halfway down the river float there is a stop point for those who wish. At the top of the hill there are restrooms and concessions. With mutual respect for others, this can be a very enjoyable experience. Sometimes its just fun to watch the younger kids acting like fools (lord knows I never did!)haha The tube ride ends at the Apple River Campground, but I will WARN you, the hike back up the hill with your tube can be a little trying. Each time I've been there, I would say the youngest age was around 12. Not to say that younger couldn't go, but if you don't want your kids to be around people who are drinking, then this might not be the trip for you.
Luggage and bags:
Your camping, pack light!
Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Ah, the weather can be unpredictable, but if you go in mid-June through mid-September, you should only need to bring 1 pair of jeans and a sweatshirt (just incase). After a hot day in the sun, and a little sunburn for those who don't bring sunblock, you might get a little chilled.
Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Suntan lotion, and mosquito spray (although I don't remember them being bad)
