  • Meteor ore boat

The Meteor appears to still be open for tours, although I arrived after hours and had to be gone before it opened. Nearly 20 years ago, we visited the ship, when it was still a float in a moat. You get to see the interior cabins, climb the ladders and see the engine.May 19 through August 31Monday - Saturday 9 am - 5 pm and Sunday 11 am - 5...

The decor is, well, overwhelming. There's just so much stuff covering the walls and ceilings - books, signs, flotsom and jetsom. I highly recommend sitting in the barber shop chairs if you can. It's dimly lit and smokey and a billiards table sits squarely in the back.

Favorite Dish: The Anchor is renowned for their burgers. They are an experience. They are fairly greasy and large. It's a true Superior experience.

and this ain't half of it!

Superior Nightlife

A small bar with small town necessities. Includes greasy food rarely ordered, all chick bartenders, pool table, dart board, and loud patrons. This bar is great if you don't mind sitting around a 90% young male crowd. And to make it even better you can get tap beer for a $1.00. This bar is a great place to start your night out. It does have a tendency to get really crowded on the weekend and late weekday nights. Highly recommend this place for young singles.

Superior Shopping

Despite the name "Mall" it is little if really one at all. With about 4 open stores it shades in comparison to the Duluth Mall. The only store worth visiting is the Aqua Hut which is a pet store and supply and you can see all of the cool pets they have. Otherwise suck up the extra 20 minutes head up the hill to the Duluth Mall.

    What to buy: Nothing

Superior Warnings and Dangers

  • by flatlandgirl Written Apr 6, 2006

When leaving any Superior Establishment at bar closing time 2:00 am on weekdays and 2:30 on weekends be aware that more likely than not a shiny patrol car or three maybe perched outside the door. When leaving Schultzs at closing on a Thursday I found myself confronted with at least four. So always have an alternative ride or walk home or to your hotel unless you want to experience the most expensive drinking night of your life.

Superior still has the easiest to see ore docks. They're right off US 53 on the east side of town. They're private property, but one has been closed and the dock is being used as a public launch. That makes it easy to get up close with the huge ore loading pier. The loading chutes have been removed and the tracks pulled from off the top, but there still impressive.

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Favorite thing: Barker's Island is a man-made spit of land that lies immediately offshore from US 2 in Superior. It's home to a marina, a hotel-conference center, and a small recreational park. There are nice views from the park over the lake, especially toward Duluth.
