Tornadoes!

When I was in Wisconsin, I worked in a summer camp in Lac Du Flambeau. That was many years ago, but I will never forget my near-miss tornado experience. This apparently still happens every summer.

It was scarrrrry! Huge hail the size of golf balls pelted down on us whilst I was in a car, travelling to a friend's home from the camp. It was an unforgettable experience.

How Much? House on the Rock

Carousel inside the House on the Rock

The last time i had taken the family to "House on the Rock" was 1991. I was suprised to find out that the House tour is now broken up into 3 or 4 different "tours" for a grand total of $95.00 for a family of 4 (A 13 year old is considered and Adult Fare in the State of Wisconsin, does that mean they can vote and drink beer too?)

Bottom Line take the entire tour it is out of this world. Not much to see in the house anymore but all the strange stuff around the house sure makes for intresting conversation.

Dee & Allan in Cedarburg, WI

Going to Cedarburg and staying in a lovely Bed and Breakfast; sleeping in later than usual; having leisurely meals with wine; exploring the beautiful natural environment; tasting wine at the winery; eating delicious homemade chocolates; savoring fantastic hot fudge sundaes; walking hand-in-hand at the park....leads to romance.

Isn't it wonderful to give such a positive warning. If only everyday life could be so tranquil and delightful.
Cedarburg brings out the best in people...it's as though we've blocked out the rest of the "rat race" and taken on a new attitude.

So, my advice to you: take time out of your hectic pace and visit lovely Cedarburg, Wisconsin. Perhaps romance will be in the cards for you, too!

BEWARE!

This is me on the second week of our holiday.
There are loads of fast-food places in the USA & are very tempting, so watch your diet. Don`t eat too many burgers & french fries, look what happened to me !!!!
Just joking really, this is a little Troll outside a giftshop in Bayfield.

Traveller`s Cheques !!!

Didn`t realise that Wisconsin doesn`t get many British tourists. Went into the main"US Bank" in La Crosse to change some Traveller`s Cheques, which were American Express, they would not change them or even advise us where else to go, & all the staff were staring at us because they had never seen or heard Brititish tourists before, very rude of them,so I`m afraid "US Bank" of La Crosse SUCKS.
So, we went to the State Bank of La Crosse & they changed them, no problem.

ARRRGH !!!!!! I never thought of bringing mosquito repellent. Got loads of bites on the first few days.....so got some spray to cover ourselves from a chemist. He also said for me not to wear any after-shave as it attracts them (silly me, I`m sure the bottle said "attracts women" not mozzies !!!!).

Certain areas of Wisconsin are famous for those 'Pyramid Schemes'. Unfortunately, a group of friends of mine, on retreat for church, did not know this and got sucked into one of these schemes. Be careful!

Well this IS Wisconsin, not exactly the most dangerous place around. Probably the biggest danger is eating too much cheese, ice cream, frozen custard, fried fish, beer, etc. and what it might do to your waistline!

If you are not a cold weather person, be prepared. From this mid November until April Wisconsin is a winter wonderland. Snowmobiling, Skiing, Snow Shoeing, Winter hiking, and lots more!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well folks, it's that time of year again when we have the choice of sitting around in front of the tube or by a warm fire to wait out the winter, or we can get out and enjoy the winter outdoors! And that's just what a lot of folks do around here. With long winters here in the north, and with the better equipment and gear we have now days, winter has become a busy season up here once people discovered how much more fun it was than just waiting for spring to come. When it comes to snowmobile trails, you won't find a better place to ride! With over 500 miles of trails and countless miles of forest roads, you can always see new scenery.

Then if cross country skiing or snow shoeing is more your speed, there's countless miles of trails and areas for that too here in Northwest Wisconsin. On top of that there's some really great winter events, like the WinterFest and the snowmobile speed runs, The Northern Lakes Family Fun 10k cross country ski event, and then of course there's the American Birke ski race, a truly world class event. This winter visit Northwest Wisconsin and the Hayward area and find out how much fun winter can be. Have fun, but there is a reason I live in Hawaii now! But I do miss it at times though!
