    Weissgerbers Gasthaus: Best German food I have ever had in the...

    by davequ Written Jul 18, 2006

    I know virtually nothing about Wisconsin.

    My son attended a military school in Delafield years ago, learned to fly out of Waukesha airport, and we would visit when we could.

    One thing stands out: being a food freak, what I will never forget is how great the food was at this place. It rivals anything I had in Germany, nbs.

    Excellent Bavarian Ambience inside and outside with service that feels like you're part of the family.

    Just my opinion, but if you are ever anywhere near Wisconsin, especially the Milwaulkee area, pull off I-94 and make a point to have lunch or better yet dinner at Weissgerbers Gasthaus.

    It's been a while since I've been here, but it was one of those places that you could feel the owners took pride in their excellence.

    Unless something awful has happened or the ownership has changed, I promise it will be worth it.

    Favorite Dish: I started out with a glass of German white, probably a Gewurtztraminer or something like it, with an appetizer of Wurstchen - Weissgerber sausage and Knackwurst;

    The killer was the main course - cured, roasted Pork Shank w/ white potatoes and spaetzel.
    It was absolutely world class and is the reason I even wrote a Waukesha page.

    They have great local microbrews, German and Czech beers to wash it down.
