Wausau Things to Do

  • by PinkusLovesBarlos Written Jun 24, 2008

Waterpark Hotel with a Big Arcade - The Lodge at Cedar Creek

Bowling Alleys - Day's Bowl A Dome, Weston Lanes, Mountain Lanes

Movie Theaters - Cedar Creek Cinema, Marcus Theater

Rib Mountain Park (a big park with a pretty view and hiking trails)

Wausau Mall & Downtown Wausau Little Stores

    Bars - They're everywhere

Lake Wausau (For boating & fishing)

The Grand Theater (has plays and theater type performances)

Marathon Park - During the summer, June and end of July beginning of August there is a fair and carnival that happen. During the winter there is Ice Skating here. There is also a community college in the middle of it. Also, there's The little red school house, which shows how really old schools looked back in the day. During summer months Marathon Junction is open, which has a little train and carousel that run for tickets. There's also a small arcade and place to eat fair type food inside.

Church Picnics - During the summer the Catholic Churchs have picnics which have a live band (normally polka or country) with a meals (a sit down one after chuch usually and cheese curds and cheeseburgers and brats during the day), games (including bingo & childrens games), White elephant sales, Walk in the park drawings for prizes, various gambling things depending on the picnic, alcohol, and a cake walk.

Isle of the Ferns - It's a nice park where you cross a bidge and walk on this small island with ferns. There's also a Blues Festival held here, and I've seen people canoe around this area as well.

There's some kayak thing held in the summer, but I don't know much about it.

And I think that about sums it up.

Favorite thing: When in Wausau you'll get exposed to a Wisconsin treat or cheese curds.

Cheese curds are produced daily at local cheese factories. You purchase them by the pound. The fresher the cheese curd the squeakier they'll be when you chew them. White cheddar is a popular cheese used.

Many restaurants and fast food outlets offer fried cheese curds for you to enjoy as an appetizer or instead of french fries.

Check them out when you come for a visit.
