Wisconsin Dells Things to Do

  • Riverwalk

We didn't have time to do one of the boat cruises but I saw the Dells RiverWalk and thought it might give us at least a little view of the Dells. A little view is what you get, the path is only 1/4 mile long and while it is marked as a bike path, the surface is rough and not very enjoyable on a bicycle.

  • Hair Raising Water Ski Show

The Tommy Bartlett Ski Show is a live acrobatic water show that can be enjoyed by the entire family. On a great day out you can sit back and be amazed by the talent and entertainment provided by the Tommy Bartlett performers. Each show is full of extreme water stunts that will have you at the edge of your seats. You can purchase your tickets online...

  • Wisconsin Dells-Tanger Outlet and...

Weather was reasonable and we had a good time in Kalahari resorts. Tanger Outlet nearby is good choice for shopping, only drawback is the open corridor and only shops inside are heated. In Kalahari resort good things are indoor theme park and indoor water park that is covered in the hotel cost, so it is a good deal and good enjoyment. Our room was...

  • Bigfoot Zipline

Imagine racing over tree tops and across a body of water. If you ever dreamed of flying this is for you! You wear a harness much like one rock climbers use which attachsd to a pulley. Once up top of the tower (there are 6) you wait your turn, get attached, get an ok, and off you go! I even filmed myself hanging upside down! I made a montage video...

  • Lost Canyon Tours

The lost canyon tour is done with horse and wagon and in the shade, making it an attractive pick when the weather is hot. The tour takes about an hour and encompasses a ride up a hidden canyon that was once Winnebago headquarters during the Black Hawk War (the only real war to have been fought in Wisconsin). The layers of rock at times resemble...

  • Dells Boat Tour

There are several boat tours you can take in the Dells, we've taken many over the years and the Upper Dells tour is great for an overview of Wisconsin Dells area, for the lush trees, and the hiking opportunities that others do not offer.

Wisconsin Dells Restaurants

  • Burgers and sandwiches along Broadway

I had printed out a few option for dinner, pizza wasn't holding my interest and my husband didn't want to eat at the more upscale place I picked out so I was left with Monk's pub. When we walked in there seemed like there was a lot of room but by the time we left it was pretty crowded although we didn't go up to the upper levels. I ordered a bacon...

Long story short: your time, money, and appetite will be better served elsewhere. We had great food at Uno's, and at Moosejaw - go to those places numerous times for good food and service, and a friendly kids atmosphere. Stay away from Buffalo Phil's, even though it's conveniently located next to Knuckleheads Indoor Amusement park, and across from...

  • Great breakfast!

We were seated at a family sized table. Started off with hot and yummy sugar doughnuts, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes. Service was great! Loved the food. Will make it a must stop every time we go. We only have eaten breakfast, and our family loved it.

Ah... what to say about the casinos in Wisconsin... well, Ho-Chunk is a chain of gambling centers throughout Wisconsin run by the people of the Ho-Chunk Nation. I think they have around 5 other casinos as well as this location.Ho-Chunk Casino is actually pretty fun. They have high stakes bingo, slots, and blackjack. I've known quite a few people...

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Over recent years, Wisconsin Dells has seen quite a number of foreign students among the summer help, many of them coming from the former Soviet Union and onetime Warsaw Pact/COMECON states as are needing to improve their English skills.

Not to mention a few Israeli Jews, especially in the gift shops.

It would certainly be welcome of all visitors if you could just show some respect for such diversity in the help--as well as be patient with them, considering where their English is a bit limited and they need some time to understand what you're trying to say.

Wisconsin Dells Warnings and Dangers

  • Interstate Dimensional Anomalies (part...

One of the perils of interstate tourism in the USA is the large disparity among the states in terms of their physical sizes. Here we see what can happen when a family from Texas (a much larger state than Wisconsin) brings their little girl to see the picturesque landscape of the Dells.

Wisconsin Dells Tourist Traps

  • It's Classified!

You're sucked in by advertising stating "it's classified." I have to admit we were curious based on the name and the picture of the upsidedown whitehouse. As I remember, the admission was pretty high, but we couldn't resist based on the name.Once inside we discovered this was like a fun house, but aimed at making fun of politics in the US. The...

  • Tourist Traps can be fun!

I grew up 8 miles from the Dells and we always considered it to be a tourist trap. However, there is a lot of great stuff to do! The best advice is to come before mid-June or after Labor Day. Weekends are nuts, you can't drive and the lines are loooong. Baraboo is a quick 10 minute ride and can save you a lot in hotel money. I would definitely hit...

I would most certainly recommend a beach bag, a good, common-sense such where you can carry beach towels, sunblock, sunglasses, aloe vera--you get the idea. Something else near Wisconsin Dells is 'House on the Rock'. It is a house that is built on an actual rock. The house stretches 3 miles and has the world's largest carousel inside. There are also beautiful flower gardens outside the house.

Wisconsin Dells Favorites

  • What is there to say about Wisconsin...

I'd probably have to recommend, for starters, the Dells Boat Tours; after all, they happen to be the raison d'etre for Wisconsin Dells' being there in the first place. That, and the Wisconsin Ducks, if only for the cornyness of the narration. That's a tough question there....
