Wisconsin Dells Things to Do

  • Mr. Marvel's Wondertorium

We were lucky enough to get a special preview show. We started off on a guided tour look at bizarre stuff. My favorite was the whale's ear bone. I never really thought about whales having ears before. After the museum we were treated to a live show with acts like broken glass walking and the rubber boy. Highly recommend to anyone. Kids will love...

  • Mt. Olympus Waterpark & Themepark

When going to the Dells, you need to do a waterpark. I highly recommend going on a week day, as weekends are really crowded. If you have to get there on a weekend, get there as the park opens, quick do the rides you want, then enjoy the wave pools for the rest of the day.

  • Original Duck Tour

Hour long tour 1/2 land 1/2 water, all in the same vehicle. If you go to the Dells, this is something you have to do. The tour guide was really entertaining. The area is scenic and the plunge into the water is fun for all ages. If you sit in the back, you may get wet.

  • Ripley's Believe it or Not

We weren't originally going to go here, but I'm really glad we did. You can actually spend a lot of time here, a lot of cool stuff is crammed into a small space, if you walk too fast, you miss a lot. There are some hidden surprises too, so you have to keep your eyes peeled. We actually went through everything more than once to make sure we saw it...

Wisconsin Dells Restaurants

  • Train Delivered Food

The food and service were fine. It was a bit pricey. The cool part was that your food and drinks were delivered by train. I guess I would go with kids again. I had the broasted chicken. It was pretty good. The baked beans were actually really good that came with it.

  • Burgers and sandwiches along Broadway

I had printed out a few option for dinner, pizza wasn't holding my interest and my husband didn't want to eat at the more upscale place I picked out so I was left with Monk's pub. When we walked in there seemed like there was a lot of room but by the time we left it was pretty crowded although we didn't go up to the upper levels. I ordered a bacon...

  • Trains don't overcome the terrible...

Long story short: your time, money, and appetite will be better served elsewhere. We had great food at Uno's, and at Moosejaw - go to those places numerous times for good food and service, and a friendly kids atmosphere. Stay away from Buffalo Phil's, even though it's conveniently located next to Knuckleheads Indoor Amusement park, and across from...

Wisconsin Dells Nightlife

  • Gambling

Ah... what to say about the casinos in Wisconsin... well, Ho-Chunk is a chain of gambling centers throughout Wisconsin run by the people of the Ho-Chunk Nation. I think they have around 5 other casinos as well as this location.Ho-Chunk Casino is actually pretty fun. They have high stakes bingo, slots, and blackjack. I've known quite a few people...

  • Just watch the shoobies go by....

Since the Dells were first known as a tourist spot, "locals" have found sport in watching the tourists strolling along The Broadway (the main drag in Wisconsin Dells) throughout the summer season. And tourists have likewise been wondering for just as long what must be going through the minds of these "locals."All in all, Downtown Dells is the best...

  • Wisconsin Dells Lowest price taxi

Wisconsin Dells Kangaroo Taxi was the best deal in town. We rode with a few cab companies, MISTAKE! This is the one. Call these guys and get it right the first time. Enjoy.

  • Highly recommend!

  • #1 taxi in Wisconsin Dells, airport...

We called Wisconsin Dells Roo! It is a great taxi/transportation company. They took such great care of us and really paid attention to details. They took us everywhere we needed to go around Wisconsin Dells, and they really have the best service in Wisconsin Dells and they had the lowest rates of all the taxis we called in Wisconsin Dells! They do...

Wisconsin Dells Shopping

  • At least it's an alternative to T-shirts

For those among you as are getting sick and tired of the same shoobie-trap T-shirt nonsense, here's a shop as should up your alley: Plenty of selection when it comes to outdoor sport and supplies, plus some interesting advice.Stocking only the best names in outdoor adventure sport, among them MSR, Chaco, Rocky Mountain Sunscreen, Seals,...

  • "No Face Too Ugly!"

From Memorial Day to Labour Day, Phoenix-based caricaturist Dave Riggs (motto: "No Face Too Ugly!") has his HQ in front of 38 Broadway (yes, that's the actual name of a gift shop in Downtown Dells), prepared to do top-quality caricatures of tourists so inclined.Using felt-tip marker and oil crayon, Riggs produces caricatures that are bound to make...

  • Just your basic(?!) Dells gift shop

It's pretty much right at the "crossroads" of Downtown Dells (i.e., at The Broadway, River Road and Superior St.), your basic tourist-trap souvenir shop with T-shirts and all manner of inevitably tacky souvenirs.Equally legendary is that oversized troll as is known to belt out Louie Armstrong's "What A Wonderful World" every few minutes (although...

Respect Diversity, if you can help it

by kahunaaccidentale Written Oct 23, 2002

Over recent years, Wisconsin Dells has seen quite a number of foreign students among the summer help, many of them coming from the former Soviet Union and onetime Warsaw Pact/COMECON states as are needing to improve their English skills.

Not to mention a few Israeli Jews, especially in the gift shops.

It would certainly be welcome of all visitors if you could just show some respect for such diversity in the help--as well as be patient with them, considering where their English is a bit limited and they need some time to understand what you're trying to say.

Wisconsin Dells Warnings and Dangers

  • Interstate Dimensional Anomalies (part...

One of the perils of interstate tourism in the USA is the large disparity among the states in terms of their physical sizes. Here we see what can happen when a family from Texas (a much larger state than Wisconsin) brings their little girl to see the picturesque landscape of the Dells.

  • Interstate Dimensional Anomalies (part...

Illinois is not as large as Texas, so when we Chicagoans visit the Dells, the situation is not nearly so troublesome (see part one).

This is what happens if you argue with your sister in the backseat of the car to the great annoyance of your mom and dad!

Wisconsin Dells Tourist Traps

  • Don't Pay Full Price

Many places say "Today Only" but really those are prices all the time, I found that when booking our lodging. Also every place gives you coupons for other places, so try to find a discount somewhere. There are also ticket vendors that give you a percent off for going to multiple attractions.

  • Top Secret - The Secret is its Lame

The 'Today Only' Special when we went was $5 per person, although that special was Today Only all 4 days we were there. And I still feel like I was ripped off. A few upside down rooms, a confusing dig site, some labeled boxes, bigfoot in a cage. Then we were at the end. We expected something more . . . interesting, funny, anything I recommend you...

  • It's Classified!

You're sucked in by advertising stating "it's classified." I have to admit we were curious based on the name and the picture of the upsidedown whitehouse. As I remember, the admission was pretty high, but we couldn't resist based on the name.Once inside we discovered this was like a fun house, but aimed at making fun of politics in the US. The...

Wisconsin Dells What to Pack

  • Bring swimwear if you expect to have fun...

I would most certainly recommend a beach bag, a good, common-sense such where you can carry beach towels, sunblock, sunglasses, aloe vera--you get the idea. I for one would have to recommend plenty of swimwear if you expect to fully experience the waterpark scene in Wisconsin Dells as it ought to be.... Sunblock. A definite must. Especially when...

  • Packing List

I think most important thing - a swimming suite! As I am sure you would love to go to one of many water parks. And if you forgot it - it is not easy to buy one as they are expensive and nothing really to chose from...

  • Don't Forget Insurance

If your current health insurance doesn't cover you while your abroad, you should consider getting international travel insurance just in case something should go wrong.

Something else near Wisconsin Dells is 'House on the Rock'. It is a house that is built on an actual rock. The house stretches 3 miles and has the world's largest carousel inside. There are also beautiful flower gardens outside the house.

Wisconsin Dells Favorites

  • What is there to say about Wisconsin...

I'd probably have to recommend, for starters, the Dells Boat Tours; after all, they happen to be the raison d'etre for Wisconsin Dells' being there in the first place. That, and the Wisconsin Ducks, if only for the cornyness of the narration. That's a tough question there....

  • I found most of these pictures...

I found most of these pictures in my mom's old photo albums. I'm not sure if this is the miniature golf course or something else? I do recognize the two kids. That's my sister and me!

  • go to Great Wolf Lodge. I...

go to Great Wolf Lodge. I stayed there for my friends birthday party and it was awesome. The water park was the best. Also the rooms are are huge. You can get all the ice you want and it is FREE. I loved going to the surf shop. They had over 100 different swim suit styles. And their stuff was not that expencive.
