Alcova is what is called a Census Designated Place (like an unicorporated town) in South Central Wyoming. It is considered part of the Casper Metropolitan Area. Fulltime residents were only about 20 in the 2000 census; but Alcova is the site of the Alcova Reservoir which is a popular vacation spot and there are many seasonal residents. You can see in the picture where they were constructing more vacation homes.
In the middle of such a dry and often desolate landscape we followed the signs just outside Alcova and found a most unexpected sight. A thriving resort around a very large reservoir/lake obviously very popular with the locals. All manner of water sports being enjoyed and a lakeside restaurant/bar providing somewhere to enjoy more sedate pleasures.
