We went rock climbing with an Exum climbing instructor for an entire day in the Teton National Park. Since our son is under 14 we had a private family climbing lesson, which turned into an entire day of technical climbing. Our very nice guide, Michael, asked us what our expectations where at the beginning, and since we really wanted to improve on our technical skills that is what we did. We saw some other families with kids that just wanted to get to the top, and they practically pulled the kids up. My son is actually a little Spiderman and climbed up one path that I couldn't even get started on.
All equipment was provided, but we had to pay extra for the approach shoes.
If you have younger kids, no equipment, and only some or no experience, this is the perfect place to learn. We had some, but still learned a great deal.
I don't have a lot of good climbing photos, since we were belaying each other most of the time. The photo of my son climbing was the easiest climb that day, all the other's were much harder.
Note: don't do this if you are not in good physical condition
Equipment: The equipment came with our lesson, except the shoes, which we also rented there.
Bring lots of water and snacks! Climbing is tiring and you need lots of water and energy.
Winter Skiing In the Jackson Area
The Jackson area receives a lot of snow in the winter months (see photo), so winter brings people to Jackson to enjoy winter sports. Skiing is one of the most popular, and there are various ski hills in the area.
Snow King Resort which is located at 400 E. Snow King Ave., on the southeast edge of town, is Jackson’s original ski resort. Locals sometimes call it The Town Hill. It has steep, vertical slopes, and is lit at night, for night skiing. This is the cheapest hill to ski of the three areas I will discuss in this tip. Check out their mountain web cam at http://www.snowking.com/About-Us_MtnWebcam.aspx
Jackson Hole Ski Resort is very popular, and is located about 12 miles northwest of Jackson. Named after the valley in which it lies, it opened in 1966, and has a number of runs to choose from, including one of the highest drops in the North American continent. For more information visit this web page: http://www.jacksonhole.com
Grand Targee is more out of the way, located 42 miles northwest of Jackson. This is the newest ski area of the three, opening in the early 1970s. This area is known for its Heavenly or champagne powder snow, with an average of 500 inches per season. Because of its snow quality, Grand Targee ranks as one of the top four ski areas in the country. There are also Nordic skiing trails, snowshoeing, and snowcat trips available at Grand Targee, or you might enjoy a sleigh ride, or a dogsled tour. Visit http://www.grandtarghee.com for additional information.

Boating the Snake River
The Snake River that runs through Jackson hole offers a number of recreational activities including fishing and boating. The waters vary, making for slow floats, paddles, or a white water experience. If you love kayaking or canoeing, but can’t bring, or don’t own your own boat, there are a number of places where you can get guided tours, or rent your own boat to explore the rivers and lakes in the area. Snake River Kayak & Canoe is one of these businesses. Here you can rent canoes, sea kayaks, whitewater kayaks, sit-on-top kayaks, rafts, and other needed equipment such as wetsuits, helmets, foam pads, etc. You may choose to rent boats and equipment for a day, or even a week. Your rentals will come with paddles, spray skirts, life jackets, and tie-down straps. This is also a fully stock store, so you could purchase a boat here, or if you brought your own boat, but need equipment you either don’t have, or forgot to bring, purchase something you need.
Snake River Kayak & Canoe also offers guided fishing trips, and canoe and kayaking outings, as well as lessons, if you are a novice and want to learn the sport of kayaking.
Snowboarding - Bring Your $$$!
It's pricey for sure - so check out Northwest Airline's site. They often have a $12 off coupon that you need to print out and bring to the ticket window, along with your Frequent Flier card. This only works once in a season. You can also try to find someone who isn't using every day of their multi-day pass, and offer them half price for it.
Equipment: Renting is $22 per day, and $19 per day if you do three consecutive days.

If Y'ain't Got 68 Bucks to Spend on Skiing...
Most people associate the town of Jackson with the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, which is actually a 15 minute drive from town. Most skiers and snowboarders come out here to ski the Mountain Resort and overlook the smaller hill that sits right in Jackson.
Snowking is the ski hill that watches over Jackson. It was actually Wyoming's first ski area and it probably hasn't made too many upgrades since its conception in 1939. Despite slow lifts and relatively short runs, Snowking is a steep hill and it's northfacing aspect assures firm snow pack most of the season. Furthermore, the hill also has night skiing until 8 pm, if you haven't gotten your fix for the day at Jackson Hole. So, if you hate long powder runs, efficient lifts, and corporations, bypass Jackson Hole Mountain Resort and head for the icy steeps of Snowking Resort.
Equipment: You can rent equipment from a number of shops in the town of Jackson. A few places sell flasks as well, essential for staying warm during frigid Wyoming winters.

White Water Rafting
White Water rafting on Snake River. It was pretty cool, especially when the raft went through some rapids and when we did a 360. One will get wet in every seat, though sit up front to really get into it.
Equipment: There are a couple outfitters. I went to Mad River and things turned out fine.
Skiing at Jackson Hole
Steep terrain, tree runs, light powder and endless backcountry. Jackson Hole is a paradise for freeride skiers and boarders. The resort has more than 2,500 skiable acres. It is located just a 20 minute drive west of Jackson. Other ski resorts in the region: Snow King (directly at Jackson) and Grand Targhee (west of Jackson Hole).
