Lusk Things to Do

  • Stagecoach Museum

As far as I could tell this really is the only “tourist” thing to do in Lusk. Every small town seems to have its own museum, and here the focus, naturally, is on the town’s historic position on the route of the Deadwood-Cheyenne stage. In addition to the replica out front, shown in my photo, the museum has a real stagecoach used on that famous...

  • Legend of Rawhide

Each year on the second weekend of July, the town of Lusk celebrates the Legend of Rawhide. The legend is a tale about a wagon train of pioneers headed through the butes south of Lusk. One of the young men on the train vows to kill the first indian he sees, who happens to be a fair indian maiden. The story that ensues will definitly captivate any...

Lusk Restaurants

  • Very disappointing

We'd been looking forward to visiting the Pizza Place for several days before our arrival in Lusk. Pizza is my husband's favourite food and I'd told him all about the two glowing reports on this restaurant on VT. Boy, were we disappointed!Firstly, you need to know that you have to go to the counter to order your pizza. There weren't any signs to...

  • It's Really Really Good!

You're not going to believe how good the pizza is here! You walk in the door, and you know right away: this is a restaurant that is owned and managed by people who really care about pizza. How and why it's here in Lusk, Wyoming - that's a good question! But you should definitely check it out if you're in the neighborhood. The crust is excellent. It...

  • Mouthwatering Pizza

How often do you expect to find a fantastic, reasonably priced pizza place in a small town? Well Lusk has one! The Pizza Place is located in one of the older buildings in the "downtown" area. The atmosphere is casual and the decor is a little bit western. There is a comfortable mix of locals and people passing through. The greatest part about the...

Lusk Nightlife

So you might be suprised to find out that there is more than one small bar in a a town like Lusk? My two favorites are the Silver Dollar and The Pub. Both serve good food although the Dollar is a little cheaper. Both have reasonably price drinks, pool tables, loud jukeboxes and plenty of local folks to chat with. I enjoy the Silver Dollar more myself, they have a dancefloor and karoke on some nights, but the Pub is only a short walk away so it's easy to hit them both just to see who's out and about. If you hit the Pub after their kitchen is closed, you can usually talk the folks from the pizza place next door into delivering to you at the bar...and the pizza is mouthwatering!

Dress Code: Shirts and shoes required...other than that I think it's up to you. Don't be offended if you get made fun of for wearing any other collegiate team logo than Wyoming.

    2.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Nice little antique shop (with several vendors) just a few doors down from the must-eat Pizza Place. I bought a little green glass vase for $8 - a little Wyoming elegance, a momento that brings back high plains memories every time I see it.

    Recycling center?

Lusk Warnings and Dangers

If you will be passing through Lusk in early August watch out for the masses of Harleys headed for Sturgis. The traffic during the Sturgis run can get a little crazy. If you are planning on staying the night in Lusk, call early to get a room.

Lusk Off The Beaten Path

  • Following the stage

Lusk is situated on the old route of the famous Deadwood-Cheyenne stage, and you can retrace this route on Highway 85. We followed it south from Newcastle to Lusk and beyond to Torrington. When you drive through the surrounding countryside it’s easy to imagine another world when travel though this area was an altogether more dangerous activity....
